The Fight For Life

Shadow had just moved to this town called Littleton. She didn’t have any friends and all she had was her mom. Her mom wasn’t very strict about rules, and Shadow was allowed to do whatever she wanted. She was wandering through town when she came across a girl who also lived in town. She had dark violet hair and blood red eyes. “Who are you?” She asked. “My name is Shadow. What’s yours?” She wondered aimlessly. “My name is Ivy. Are you new here?” She sighed and wondered where she had come from. “Yeah, I just moved here.” She smiled an eerily smile, which creeped her out. “Cool.. What are you doing?”

It was none of her business what Shadow was doing, so why did she have to tell her? Of course, this was her only hope of making some friends. “I’m just walking around. Because I have nothing better to do.” Ivy and Shadow became great friends. They were inseparable they eventually became best friends. Ivy introduced Shadow to all of her friends, and She soon became popular. But, they were having troubles….that started with the first boy she had a crush on. His name was Alessyan and he was very popular like her, but he wasn’t as smart. Shadow didn’t know what to do about her first crush, so she consulted Ivy. “You have a crush on Alessyan??? !!! Good choice! But, I had problems with him last year. He’s hard to get . But, I think you two should go out on a date.”

Shadow’s face was flustered with crimson and pink hues. “I don’t know. It would be my first date ever.” Ivy’s jaw dropped to the floor. Her eyes were bulging out of her head. “No way! Your very first date? Oh my god, I can’t believe it. Don’t worry, I will help you.” She was so nervous on her first day of school. She wanted to go, but she was afraid. When she arrived at school that morning, all of her new friends were waiting for her. Ivy was amongst them, but she seem unhappy as she saw Shadow. “Good morning, Shadow. I hope you have a great first day.” So, She went to her classes, and found that she had three classes in a row with Alessyan. She was in math class when he spoke to her. “Hey, How are you?” She couldn’t help but smile. He was just too cute. “I’m fine. What about you?” He smiled back at her. “I’m doing great. So, what kind of music do you like?”

He seemed sweet and she couldn’t take her eyes off of him.” I like alternative, some country, but I like mostly screamer alternative.” He smiled wider and his sparkling white teeth took her off guard. “Cool, I like the same type. What about books?” She nearly melted on the floor when he kept smiling at her. “ I like horror, adventure, some mystery and some romance.” The teacher stared at her, and she just continued ignoring everyone else around them. “I love horror and adventure! Do you have any siblings?” Shadow looked away from him and out the window. “All I have is my mom..” He reached over and gently squeezed her arm. “I’m sorry.” She looked back at him and there were tears in her eyes. “It’s okay. It’s kind of hard to talk about, but sometimes it helps.” He gave her a sympathetic smile. “I have no siblings either, unless you count my twin that died at birth…” She returned the smile warily. “I’m sorry to hear that.” He nodded. “It’s okay ..um ..I know it’s an awkward time to ask, but do you want to hang out after school?” She had just finished wiping her tears and smiled. “I’ll meet you after soccer practice. Okay?” He nodded and left.

~Later on that day~

She was playing soccer when she spotted Alessyan in the stands. She was diving to save a goal when a bunch of people landed on her leg. It hurt so bad that she was crying. Shadow was so close to passing out. The world was spinning too fast and her head was getting dizzy. The last thing she saw was Alessyan running out onto the field. When she finally awoke from being unconscious, Alessyan was reading a book called a Midnight Summer’s Dream. “Alessyan?” He looked up from his book and realized that she was awake. “How do you feel?” She blinked a couple of times and stretched. “I feel fine except the stabbing pain in my leg.”

He smiled gently. “Well, the doctor gave me these pills to give you.” He handed her one of them, but avoided her eyes. “Where’s my mom?” He swallowed hard. “Umm..Shadow, your mom disappeared after you arrived at the hospital.” Tears began to cascade down her face. “How could she just disappear? She was at hom when I left for school. Where could she have gone?” He looked away from her. “I don’t know, Shadow. I just don’t know.” The tears wouldn’t stop falling down Shadow’s cheeks. Alessyan reached over and covered her hand with his. “We are going to find your mom. In the meantime, my parents said that you can come live with us.” She interlocked her fingers with his and nodded.

That day, Shadow was released from the hospital to go home. Alessyan wheeled her to his car and drove her to her house to get some essential items. She collected all of her clothes and some other stuff before they left. When they arrived at his house, he was about to get the wheelchair. “No, I want to use my crutches.” She didn’t go to school the next day because she didn’t want to. He received her homework and the books she needed. The day after that, Alessyan drove her to school, so it would be easier on her. He helped her out of the car and they walked into the building. All of her friends were waiting for her by the entrance to the building. They were about to enter when Ivy stopped them. “I heard what happened to you. How unfortunate you are.” Everyone around Ivy was laughing at her. They were no longer her friends. Alessyan held the door open and they walked past them, leaving them behind. “Sorry about your friends. You don’t need them.” He carried her things around all day, even though she thought there wasn’t any need for it. “I can carry them myself.” Alessyan looked away and when he looked back at her, his eyes were shinning with tears. “I don’t want you to go through what I had to.” She smiled and for once in her life, she felt happy. “But, you don’t have to do it all day.” He smiled at her. “But, I want to. I want to help you.” For once, she felt like she was actually someone instead of being invisible. Alessyan wanted to help her so much. Shadow meant everything to him. He never wanted her to leave his life. But, the time would come when Shadow would have to leave.

“I want to help you because I care a lot about you. I don’t want you to leave.” She had no idea what to say. “I care a lot about you too. I don’t ever want to leave you, even if I have to.” Shadow and Alessyan hugged and Poison walked into the room. Poison is Alessyan’s little sister. “What are you two doing?” They both separated from their hug and he glared at his sister. “It’s none of your business!” Poison stuck out her tongue at him and left the room. “She is such a big pain in the butt.” She smiled and laughed. He was fun to be around and Shadow liked him a lot. But, she didn’t know how to ask about their relationship. They were in Alessyan’s car when she decided to ask about their relationship. “Are we in a relationship?” He stopped the car and turned to talk to her. “I like you a lot. I want to be with you and you like me, right?” She nodded. “Then, we are in a relationship. Let’s see where it takes us.” They finally had their first kiss.

As the days went by, Alessyan and Shadow’s relationship progressed further and further. They were becoming closer every day. Her leg healed nicely and she was back on the soccer field, ready to play. Shadow was in the middle of a game, when she saw Alessyan get approached by an adult. It was a police officer. She was looking at Alessyan, trying to figure out what was going on, but he was hiding it too well. After the game, and pizza, Alessyan decided to tell her. “There’s something I need to talk to you about.” There was concern glittering in his eyes. “What’s wrong?” His face was as pale as paper. “They found your mom…dead.” The last word came out as a whisper. “What?!” Tears came pouring out like there was no tomorrow. Alessyan enveloped Shadow in a hug and he let her cry into his arms. She was crying so hard that her eyes were puffy and red. What was she going to do? She had nowhere to live now. Where will she go?

He let go of her, and looked into her eyes. “Look, it’s going to be okay, I promise. I will be here to help you. “ Shadow pushed away from him. “Shadow? What’s wrong?” She sniffed her nose and looked at him. “ I need space.” He looked dumbfounded. He didn’t know what to do. She just stood up and left. She took a long walk around town. When she got back, he was talking to Poison. “What’s going on?” Alessyan didn’t know what to say. “Shadow, are you okay? Where have you been?” She looked away from him and stared out the window. “Why won’t you just talk to me? What did I do to you? I just want to talk to you!” She walked away from him and went straight to her room. When she got to her room, she plopped on her bed and started to cry. She didn’t know what to do.

Her life seemed to be crashing down all around her. She was scared but, she wanted him to be a part of her life. But, if she couldn’t keep all her secrets in, then how could she, or would she go on with her life? She wanted him to know everything, but what if he thought of her differently because of her secrets? She had to tell him sometime. She really wanted to trust him, but she was afraid to let anyone know anything about her. She was scared of what he might think. She was still crying on her bed when Alessyan walked in. “Are you okay? Please talk to me! What’s wrong?” Shadow picked up her head and looked at him. “Shadow, I know you are upset, but there is nothing you can do. You just have to move on with your life. The only way for me to leave you alone, is if you will talk to me.” She moved away from him, as he sat on her bed. “I’m a witch.” He didn’t quite hear her. “What?” She sat up and looked at him. “I’m a witch. Do you think that it was chance that we met? I wished for someone like you.” He seemed confused and lost. He did not know what to say.

“You are a witch? How could that be? Your eyes are so innocent and caring. Witches eyes aren’t innocent and caring.” Shadow cried into her pillow and they were long hard sobs. “Shadow, honey, it’s okay. I forgive you. I know it must be hard to have that secret. But, it’ll be alright. I promise.” But, Shadow’s secrets had not be kept. It had somehow spread across town. The whole town rebelled against her. They came after her with torches and pitch forks and drove Shadow and Alessyan out of town. What was going to happen to them was a question that even Shadow couldn’t answer.
