An intimate bond between a father and his son
DAD – A VOICE WITH LOVE,FOREVER........

The numbing cold griped the earth with an iron fist shredding its misty drops of dew. Opening my eyes wide and big, I eagerly call out “Mama, please be here”. Not being able to communicate it with words, my eyes speak for me. “Let me open the door please” Even my puppy eyes doesn’t seem to convey my wish. Mama is in a hurry. She steadily picks me up from the bed, unlocking the door she lays me on veranda returning to her household duties.
A gentle breeze blows me a kiss with a naughty tip. I quiver for a while and switch my gaze to the road, which winds like a serpent ahead. Well well, you might be thinking that, I am expecting somebody here. Yes! You are correct; today is the day when I finally meet Daddy dear, a great satisfactory finish for my never-to-end yearning. The first day since I was introduced to this lovely world, I have been longing to see my Papa. And finally, now my dream will come true . I progressively but gradually move towards the veranda by holding the walls with my soft tiny palms. I make the walls, the steps, the cold hazy daybreak as my audience to listen to my story. They gaze steadily; keen to attend me as their little comrade. Meanwhile my eyes wander to the road but my thoughts quickly deviates me back to the present, the impending arrival of my Papa and the time I am to spend with him.
……………………And at last, here begins the itinerary of my life, a journey into the human reality. Now my ultimate want was to see in real, the owner of an anonymous voice- my dad, who had cheered me with pleasure the same way mama had enjoyed his tone.  He felt so calm, sweet, tender and touching. Initially the voice had irritated me, but slowly it changed to be an indispensible one. Later his call would make my face dazzle as a twinkling star.
Our contact - those engaging words, those flying kisses and that endless enchanting voice - could only be listened through mama’s cell phone. Whenever I heard the sweet ringing of the melodious mobile tone, mom used to swiftly run towards it starting her endless sweet talks. In the due time she would be filled with joy and I could feel the complete overflow of happiness in her. Totally forgetting about me and my presence, she would be in her own world making me scowl and had broken my little heart. I expressed my displeasure by kicking my soft limbs and pushing my tiny little fists into the space around me in my mom’s womb making her wiggly with my movements.
With the passing days, gradually the hatred towards the voice which had seeped into my mind had stamped out. Having built an intimate relationship with that voice and realizing the hidden fondness to it, my baby heart began to beat to the rhythm of Papa’s sound. It had not only won my mother but my little spirit too. Every day ‘that voice’ inquired about me and whenever mama gave a beaming description about me and my tiny self, I could feel a visualizing tone in his reply. From this, I imagined many a different faces for my dearest voice animating it, even giving it my face and breathing life into it. I earnestly wished and couldn’t wait to find out the true owner of ‘that voice’, which had become my life, my world and my aim.
Then the time came when I had to turn off my imaginations and even the communication through mama’s cell phone, while I was in her tummy. They told her, the phone’s magnetic rays could damage me, as my point to come out was nearing.  Even if we had put an end to our contact, that voice remained very close to me. ……………That day, I remember a soothing weather draped around me as if wrapped in a soft blanket. It was calm and quiet, giving me a comfort in my mama’s womb - balmy, safe and heavenly. I yawned and stretched, slightly opening my eyes. Finally it felt like the time had arrived to leave my safe haven and step out into the real world, into the hand of my loved ones. Then with a wink of an eye, I was ‘officially’ an existent member of the human race on our planet. Yaay!!! I was finally bought onto this flowering universe.
After my tremendous endeavor into the human world, I was totally ignorant about the lovable voice that had enthralled me; or rather I would say I never took notice of it. Meanwhile mama introduced to me to a stranger not known before, “baby, look at your dad, he is smiling for you”. Mindlessly I divert my attention to him, sensing a figure in front of me and calling “baby, oh sweet heart, look at me, I am your dad”.  There, something out of the blue hit my little heart and opening my eyes, I smiled directionless to the person in front of me. I was surprised with a beautifully intense truth revealing here, “That voice which had made me smile and crackle with wild imagination even in my mother’s womb belonged to my dad, my sweet pope, a voice I would look up to the rest of my life”. “No wonder I was able to identify his voice” I chuckled. Now from mama I realized the reason for dad’s absence; he traveled far and wide, as part of his job. Anyway that didn't bother me as I had a vague recollection of him tenderly holding me in his arms and giving the slightest softest peck of my cheeks…. What else could I ask for?
………. Again mere little problems blocked my path in knowing my dad. I couldn't see my father clearly because I had an unclear vision in my eyes, owing to the fact that I was a newborn, natural for all babies not just me. Steadily and gradually with a whole healthy meal of mommy’s milk and later with some stuff I was not used to (they call it baby food!!), I was a healthy little one with a clear vision like a hawk. Even though I got the clearest of the eye sights, I could only find the absence of my dad. He had returned to work, just his voice as my companion now.
As soon I was able to speak and form sounds correctly, I always repeated the word ‘dad’. I was missing him….. Whenever I mumbled out the word, it felt like an echo and Dad came so near and valuable to me. I was so in despair when mama told me that he was on job and would be returning only on my birthday..
“Dad will be here as soon as possible” she said.
“But I want to see him sooner”, I protested.
She couldn't understand me, just seeing my little expressions as a tiny little tot’s play and cooed over me even more. I couldn't speak as the grownups, I was irritated yet was happy as a cherub because I got the chance to build our bond through the phone, hearing his voice and feeling his love… This was magical. I was totally disappointed on not seeing him, but I never agreed to submit myself to the despair. I still would wait for dad….. And finally as I say my story of the bond between me and my pope’s influence, it’s the time for his arrival.
The honk of the car gathers all my wandering thoughts together and waking me up from my colorful imaginative thoughts. I get up from veranda and shout out to mama “da da….dada….. dadadaaaa” to open the gate of my lovely home. That, much awaited moment is in front of my eyes. I couldn't believe it… I was restless, I was happy, I was ecstatic… My papa, my love gets down from the car. I giggled and wiggled impatiently in an excitement to receive my lovable voice…………..

A part of my expeditionary life is satisfied here. I am meeting daddy dear for the first time in flesh, in person. I bid ‘’adios amigos” to my silent acquaintances, my partners who till now were the muted spectators of my banter of how ‘that voice’ had me waiting for ages, the story of our bond. The walls, the steps, the drizzling morning rain, the cold fog on the trees and all my comrades silently smile together as I meet my Papa, My Dad- A voice leading me with love, yesterday-today-tomorrow…..

Very unique and creative. Trying to imagine what it would be like to have a voice in the womb and early childhood.

I have a fairly good memory of my life, but I cannot remember anything before about four years of age. That will forever be a mystery to me. It is not a mystery to those of us who read your story.
