Inside the Mind of a Writer

How do you feel about an author''s work/writing? Writing is work.  Do you feel that what happens on the pages in between the cover of a book actually happened to the writer?

The mind of a writer with an active imagination such as mine can take one small incident in a life... mine or anyone''s life... and blow that up into an explosive story that is pure fiction... except for that one incident. The writer can BE in that story and when the story has ended, they can come back to reality.

I can do that.

In my latest novel... The Book of Pilar Grace... I recieved a review lately and the reader put me in the situation of the story without reading what the book was about. She didn''t read the summary or look at the book cover, and left a startling review that the story was about me or someone close to me. That''s not true, and  she refused to read the book. That''s okay if she let a few words about two teenage girls talking about sex upset her, but that isn''t what the story is about. I''m fine with that, but it''s not fine to put the author or someone that I may have been close to in the place of Pilar Grace. The entire story is fiction.

I made it very clear that the book was RATED R, and it was about sexual molestation and child abuse, but she  read up to page 27 and apologized for not reading it through because she guessed where the story was going. The novel is 274 pages. If she had gone to page 42, she would''ve read something very different than the first 42 pages. 

I did take one incident and blew it up into something that was totally fiction. All of it.There is only one line in this story that is true and this I will keep to myself, because it''s a book of fiction. But any writer can do this if they have an active imagination and say... "What if this would''ve happened instead of this?" Just that quesion makes my mind wander to places and events I never thought of until I begin with that one incident and make up the fictional story. I have 11 books of fiction and in every one, when I read them again, I wonder how I came up with all of these stories, but I LOVE writing.

So with that said... I would really like to know, do you think that every book you read is the story of the author when it clearly states it''s fiction and Rated R? 

I thank you for your comments because I will not censor my words in any story. I did say this about... The Book of Pilar Grace... "You will either like it or not."  

She didn''t like it.  *smiles*  Critiques and reviews are meant to tell me what I need to know to make my writing better. I''m used to good and not so good reviews. I thank you, but I will not censor my words if it fits into a story.
