WHAT A YEAR THIS HAS BEEN
It's been a hectic year of doctor appointments, hospital stays and visits, nursing care at home, and new medications, for my husband Teddy. In one year his heart went into A-Fib and he had a pacemaker put in. His kidney failed. He had to have dialysis. He's still not discharged from his kidney specialist.
I've lost track of how many visits but it's still not over for this year.
Now his good knee gives out and he needs a cane. We both use canes now so it was only fitting that our 60th wedding anniversary photo would be with our canes.
We had a great run -- in this thing called LIFE, and we still feel blessed to be alive. We feel much better now than at the beginning of the year, so we move forward.

Similar experiences health-wise, my husband Jim is now 89 and was diagnosed with heart failure two years ago and was very ill, one doctor pronounced it 'End of Life' and for a while it seemed touch and go. I have been diagnosed with severe degeneration of the spine with nerve damage and am on pain killers that don't help much. A Neurologist from one of our big UK hospitals has informed me he doesn't want to operate on me as it is too risky because of my 'other problems.' I waited almost a year for that phone call, now I have been waiting since May for a call from the Pain Management Clinic! It is a toss-up whether that arrives before the Neurologist calls again in November. Our system is broken. Jim and I have been married 44 years, second for both of us, my first marriage lasted 20 years and felt like a century!!
Congratulations on your 60th, that is a real achievement and I hope you both continue to thrive for many more. The Lord's Blessings are New every morning.

But you're right, all you can do is look forward to the next year and doing better than we have been doing. My latest setback is the flu that seems to been hanging around for nearly a month now.
