Thought all of you needed to know my crappy luck...I'll write accidents 3 and 4 later...
I was working for a car door unlocking company in Louisville. I was driving my own vehicle because they hadn’t decided if they were going to be able to buy vehicles for us. I had a run out to a Kroger that I had never been to. It was out in Lagrange on Brownsboro Road, closer to 265. I didn’t know the fastest way to get there so I hopped off the expressway, from 264, and was going to shoot up Brownsboro Road.

When I got off the expressway the light was red. It had just turned red so I grabbed my map book and was looking at the map. I was keeping my eye on the light since I was the first in line. When the light changed I hesitated and put the map down. I pressed the gas and started to make my left turn onto Brownsboro Road.

It was a pretty blind intersection so I couldn’t see if the traffic from the left had stopped at the light. I figured they had since I had hesitated long enough to put my map book on the passenger seat and no one had blown the light.

As I started to go through the intersection I looked to my left to make sure no one was going to hit me. That’s when I saw her flying at me. I slammed the gas pedal to the floor. I wasn’t about to let her hit me in the driver’s door. I would have lost my left leg if she had. I had my knee bent and she would have taken my leg off or crushed it so badly that it would have had to be amputated.

I almost made it. Instead of hitting me in the driver’s door she hit me on the rear of the bed right behind the rear tire. She spun my 1000 pound truck with her little car. The truck did a couple 360’s and as I spun I watched her windshield crack as her airbags deployed. That was when I realized I had to hit the brakes. I hit the brakes and managed not to hit her on my way back around. I ended up facing the proper direction for the lane I was in which means I pulled it back around in a 180, after my 360’s.

Before I had come to a complete stop I had my radio in my hand calling to my manager that I had been in an accident. I was pretty shook up and the adrenaline was pumping pretty badly. I managed to tell them where I was and that I was okay. The last thing I said was that I had to go because I had to make sure the other person was okay and I threw my radio on the passenger seat.

I got out of the truck and her driver’s window was down. I reached in and touched her shoulder and gave slight pressure. I asked her if she was okay and she didn’t even notice me. Her elbows were locked and she had a dazed look on her face. I gave a slight shake and asked her if she was okay. She still didn’t answer me. I shook her just the slightest bit more and actually yelled at her to get her to snap out of it. She said she was okay and I told her to put it in park. She finally got it in park and it took me a couple minutes to get her to shut the car off. I finally convinced her to get out of the car after making her think real hard if anything hurt. Her left wrist stung a little bit, but it was a small rug burn from the airbag deploying.

She was wobbly kneed so I grabbed her around the waist and helped her walk to the median. I didn’t want to chance being hit by some idiot that was paying even less attention that she had been. As I was helping her to the median I started to dial 911 to get an officer out to make the accident report.

I made her sit down and went back to her car and flipped on her hazards. I grabbed her cigarettes and lighter and handed them to her. I paced back and forth on the median. I suddenly realized I need my phone and radio in case my manager was trying to get a hold of me.

I went over to my passenger side and opened the door. Everything was thrown about and I couldn’t find my lighter. I reached over, turned my truck off and grabbed my cigarettes. I found my phone and radio. I put my radio on my tonneau cover where I could hear it and tried to call Robin. I couldn’t get the call to go through. I borrowed her phone and called Robin to let her know I was okay. Robin was upset but handled the fact that it was the week of my birthday and we had only had the truck back from the first accident for three weeks.

The ambulance showed up before the officer did. I told them I was fine but I wanted the other girl checked out. They kind of looked at me funny but did as I asked. The ambulance driver sat and talked to me while his partner checked the other girl. I told the ambulance driver everything. He told his partner to check her vitals twice because of shock. He was afraid she might have briefly lost consciousness. She hadn’t but he wanted to hear her side of the story anyways.

While they checked her out I called my manager. My bed was definitely going to need repaired but it didn’t look that bad. I told him I should be able to get back on the road after the officer took the report.

The ambulance left and she called her boyfriend to come get her. She didn’t want to drive even though her car was drivable. I got into the truck and grabbed a screwdriver. I took her front bumper off and threw it in the back of my truck. It was pretty demolished and I could have left it on the median but I was afraid it would cause an accident at night.

We waited for almost an hour before the officer showed up. Needless to say I was pissed. He asked what happened and we told him the truth. She never saw that the light was red or that the right lane was stopped. I’m not sure why there were twenty or so cars in the right lane and no one in the left lane, but that’s what happened. He took our licenses and insurance cards. He came back three minutes later and told us we could leave.

I got in my truck after grabbing my radio and started it up. The officer blocked the left lane for me and I pulled around the median and got into the left turn lane. My rear wheel was wobbling. I slowly made the left turn and pulled into a parking lot and parked it. I got out and looked at the wheel. It was fine; the axle was bent at about a 28 degree angle. I called my manager and told him I was wrong and that I was calling the insurance company to get a tow. I asked him if there was any way he could come get me or if he needed me to call Robin to come get me. My manager decided to come get me so that I could use his company car till mine got fixed.

The tow truck came and he looked at the damage and wrote it all down. We laughed as I told him that it would be the first back window I would get and that I would have a damn near new truck now. We talked about the first accident and he told me it looked like I would get a whole new bed. He also told me that it was the tonneau cover that shattered the window. I just shook my head and got everything out of my truck and put it into my manager’s car. I told him where the truck was going and we left.

For the second accident I got $3000 worth of work done to it. A new rear bumper, new bed, new anti crumple braces for the bed, new rear mud flaps, new left side of the rear axle, and a brand new rear sliding window. The tonneau cover hinges were repaired and everything on the back got repainted.

Surprisingly that crappy repair shop did a good job. I didn’t have to bring it back to them.
