Cheap Wine
I look at this glass of cheap wine
and I no longer cry
I look out my window at the starry night
and wait till winter comes
it’s been a long hard journey to get to no return
I cast the shadows to the wind
when will my life really begin?
I know one thing and I know it’s true
the love I found, I found in you
but they never leave, the old lament
so toss it away
and begin anew
and dear friends come
and dear friends stay
the rest of them just blow away
I count to ten and I can see
that beauty got the best of me
I love her strength, I love her heart
although I know that we must part
they say it all the time these days
those who will not take separate ways
I count my hands and count to five
I will not leave this world alive
so pardon me my non-intent
more precious a letter I never sent.
