Excerpt from Addiction: A Personal Story
God is with us even when we grieve; especially when we grieve.
A few summers ago my step daughter and her friends spent a lot of time at my apartment. I had a strong passion for teenagers and I loved their company. My teen years were extremely difficult so I felt like I could relate to them. I understood what they went through because I went through similar circumstances when I was their age. They talked and I listened. I always welcomed them in my home because I knew they needed a safe place to hang out. My home was safe. And I knew as long as they were with me, they were alright. They would all gather in the back room and talk about teenage stuff. They would eat junk food and laugh a lot. I felt privileged that I was a tolerant parent. I know of many parents who kick the kids out of the house in the morning and tell them to go find something to do. I was not like that; not now, not ever.
Unfortunately on a very bad day one of the young boys, who had also spent time at my house, was in a very bad car accident. He was out one night drinking and drugging and he ran into the back of a parked car. He was in a coma for three days before he died. That was very difficult news for me. I knew that boy. I didn’t know him well but I knew him well enough to hurt over his loss. The pain in my stomach was tremendous. I was literally sick for four days. A lot of what I felt was the sorrow I saw in my daughter and her friends. I felt so bad for them. I knew there wasn't anything I could do to make it better. The grieving had to run its course.
God knew our pain, and he cared. He also knew that worship would bring peace during the torment. So I prayed and sang songs to God and eventually the pain left my stomach. It took the kids a lot longer to recover and rightfully so. It is hard enough for an adult to experience death; I can’t imagine how it must feel to a mere child. I still don't understand the death of that boy and probably never will. But it has motivated me to increase the prayers I pray for my own children. Every morning I thank God for protecting them from all harm; and so far He has.

Today, I was thinking of my youth and the great mistakes I have made in past. Yet, the Lord has took me from where I used to be, at the point of the worst time in my life and has LOVED me so unconditionly; I delight in Him for He alone is able (Ephesian 3:20-21)Yes. Lacy, each day my heart sings songs unto Him: those songs of Glory, Honor and Praise for I trust in Him with my Life, for Jesus is My All And All--for whom I can confide in and trust in with my Life,for His Love overshadows my very exsistance. A touching story. I add my prayers to yours in the hope that all of friends of the boy will turn to God and trust that He's in control. And one day, they will see their friend again. Weeping lasts for but a night, joy comes in the morning! Thanks for sharing your story.
