Loss of a friendship that started out as
a try at poetry, but ended up with just
my feelings which do not rhyme..
I guess I always wanted more from you
than you were willing to give;
So now we've gone our separate ways
each with different lives to live.
The bond will probably always be there
the friendship just not intact;
So the time for us has come and gone
and the pages of time, you can't turn back.
I will remember our friendship and
sometimes wonder how you are;
The smiles and laughter, tears and
fears,I will remember also, but to
me our fights have become painless scars.
The bottom line is that for a
friendship to survive, both have to
learn to give and take.
In all friendships, misunderstandings
have to be talked about and patched up..
No one can be right all of the time or
wrong all of the time. That is where
the give and take comes in...
For one to always have to be the one
who knows best or is always right, no
matter what the circumstances are. No
one should have to always give in when
they know they are right, just so the
other does not get mad...Knowing that one person does not believe what another
says and is always checking or looking
for ways to disprove what they have
said or done.
But, in the end one will wear down the
other, and think they have won the battle. When, in fact all they have done
is leave a battle scar on the other.
Over time the scars build up. When a
simple "I am sorry" or an "I was wrong"
would remove some scarring. But if the
one doing the scarring does not think
they are ever doing anything wrong, the
friendship will eventually come to an
end.
If it is a 100% true friendship that
has endured time, it could be mended, but that would mean the truth would
come out between the two, and if the
person responsible for the ending of
the friendship would admit their problem
it might not be to late to save the
friendship. But, then again..maybe it
shouldn't be saved...Because, down deep
each know that some things just will
never change.Both can not be right, both can not be wrong. There will be no
give and take. The one with the scars
can take no more...
I found this very profound and touching. Perhaps it hit home. This sounds like a divorce, but a broken friendship can be just as bad or worse. Tears came to my eyes when I read this. Beautiful.
It is for lack of those three simple words that many relationships and friendships have fallen apart and ended...I have had those friendships that a simple I am sorry would have changed much, I have also found that sometimes, especially when we are younger those words are hard to say and hard to admit our mistakes, however it seems as I have aged and matured I have come to value friendships, time, and the goodness of living with oneself and the ease that comes with saying I am sorry or I was wrong. A part of life that many have endured! Well done!
