I wrote the last day for those of you that live your life without a thought of reason or rhyme.
It was the perfect day. The sun was shining but not enough to make one uncomfortable. The breeze was blowing through my opened window hitting my neck as I sat lounging on the sofa. The children playing outside gave the perfect day that flawless touch. The television was on low but not low enough because I can hear those two idiots that priest and that talk show guy arguing again. I was in and out of consciousness so I really wasn’t listening anyway. Lynn was supposed to come over an hour ago. She should have been here by now but that’s Lynn, always fashionably late. I dose once again and woke up again from a heavy pounding on my door. I look through the peep hole and opened it for Lynn.

“Hey girl.” I said softly while giving her a hug while she told me some story about the homeless guy on the corner throwing his pamphlets at every car that passed him by. “Oh, is that the Larry Gill show?” I love that guy, turn it up, shush, shush turn it up and let me hear.” Lynn said as she jumped into the sofa. I lay down on it letting my feet hang off the side and my head setting comfortably in Lynn’s lap as her favorite bozo yelled at the other bozo.

“This is the last days. Read your bible and all of the prophesies will point to this point in time.” The wrinkled little priest says as the talk show guy made fun of him as he spoke. Larry Gill was this wise guy talk show host that made jokes about everything. This time he let the priest have it and it was not very funny. “You mean to tell me that a planet that is over three billion years old will finally meet its doom on this day of all days? I think, no, I know you are full of it. The bible told you. God did not write that book some old farts like you did. If you think the world will end tomorrow that you have got to be out of your freaking mind.” Larry said without shame. All the priest had to say after that barrage of insults was simply, “It is Gods will.”

Lynn grabbed the remote and turned the television off. She was running her fingers through my hair making me feel numb and tingly. I asked Lynn if she noticed how perfect everything was today. She just shrugged. I kept ranting on everything I noticed like the perfect weather, the perfect surroundings and now the perfect relaxation with the most perfect woman. Lynn stroked my hair some more listening to all the right things coming from my mouth just as I intended then to. Just then from out of nowhere a thunderstorm rolled in. It started to pour so heavily you couldn’t see a foot in front of your face.

Lynn nearly jumped out of her skin when the lightning hit very close. The noise was so damn loud it was deafening and left both of our ears ringing. I jumped up and closed the window because the rain started to pour in. “Hot cocoa?” I offered. Lynn didn’t want any so I didn’t make any. It was so weird watching the sky go from sunny to back in less then three minutes. The winds started increasing dramatically. I could hear the window panes shaking and the shutters were making such a racket. Now limbs of trees were flying through the air hitting portions of the house scaring both Lynn as well as this macho idiot. Things went from bad to worse when a tree split in two hitting the roof causing it to leak, no gush water inside the house. The power went off and on then off for the last time. Lynn just held me and she knew I was afraid maybe even more so then she was. We watched as the neighbor’s roof went flying by our window. Lynn looked at me and said “Maybe that priest was right. Maybe this is the end of the world.” I took her hand and pulled her close to me. I was speechless for the first time in my life.

I scurried to find a candle in the junk drawer in the kitchen. I placed it in the middle of the kitchen table and lit it. It gave us some light as we held each other tightly. The lightning was intense as well as the thunder which sounded as if we were in the middle of world war three. We kept silent holding each other waiting for this fiendish storm or what ever it was to pass. Noise was all around us stopping the words from ever leaving our lips. We both looked around as if we were animals trapped in a wildfire. Panic was the calm compared to what we were facing here. Just then we looked at each other. We both had a weird feeling and we just kissed and then the candle blew out, and....
