     Remembering World War II heros

A Veterans Day Message

I remember vividly the good American and British guys who came from far away, they were kids as my dad used to say, others were mature men who left their families behind. They did not come as conquerors, but they risked their life to save us from the Nazi tyranny.  Every day, I spoke lengthily with them.  Everyone had a great story to tell, they showed me the pictures of their wives and their children; others showed me their lovely girlfriend who was waiting for their return.   Many of them did not even know the political reason for the war, but they knew they had a duty towards millions of people who were under the siege of bombs and who died for no reason.  These brave guys knew the death before knowing life.  It was in this spirit that I visited the American military cemetery in Carthage.  From that holy place, I sent the following message to their families:

“As a witness and survivor of World War II, I assure you that your children, your husbands, your fathers, your friends, who came from such a distance to liberate us from the hell of war will never be forgotten; these soldiers represent for us the symbol of Liberty. May God bless them and their families.”

My mother grew up during World War II, and she told me a story about the things that she had seen and experienced. I ma very touched by your story. I love the way you have written your message. If you have time, stop in at my den and read my stories. One of the stories is entitled, "From the Window in Italy", which is based on my mother's recollection of the things that she had seen from her window in Italy during WW II. Feel free to let me know what you think of some of my works.
