As he was flipping his mobile, puffing his cigarette, the boy was yelling at his friend,'get me a pack of twenties".He stared at me and started smiling,"what are you looking at lady?"At the back of my mind i was wondering "how old are you boy?where's your parents?it's late now, go home".This scene is very common in my hometown nowadays.Teenagers loitering around in the middle of the night mixing with the wrong crowds.
During my younger days, my parents will punish me if they know i was out without their permission.The society has changed, people changed, culture changed.Children nowadays are more into material gains.I see children at the age of 7,carrying an i-pod,a playstation or nintendo to school.They eat at fastfood restaurants and want to dress up following their icon.If you don't comply to their requests they will start showing tantrums.What do you do?Abide by their rules?Teenagers want to be heard but they hardly listen.If we lay a hand on them,they will cry abuse.So, what do we do?Just follow them.
Why can't it be like before, where adults remains the parents and children stay children.I've read in the news, a teenage boy hacked his mother to death because she could not afford to buy him a handphone.Where is the moral of this story?
We,as adults can be open-minded ,but to a certain extent and limitation.A child should be taught love, moral values, respect and responsibility.They should be taught how hard it is to earn a living and it is hard to make money.
The question is, how we, as parents going to ignite these amongst our children when the authorities are advertising material and luxury items publicly.I leave the question for you to ponder.
I think we are too busy chasing money that we tend not to have time for them. Such we think material things will replace the attention and love that they need.

It raises the question: Are we going backwards? Technology and advances in medicine and education are improving our lives as is increased wealth for many but in social behavious we seem to be going in reverse
