     There is Hope

Log date 03152069: The big cities were no longer safe havens, my dearest. The sun dances in people's heads like water rolling uphill.

This is unlike Iraq and Afghanistan tours.

Imaginings.

Dirt.

Filth.

Time to escape off the grid.

Glad I prep'd for this even when they laughed when times were good and easy.

Now, they're sick by the droves, or half-gone. Packed rations for the journey: MREs, and 200 rounds of ammo plus a grenade for a special occasion and last breath.

Thinking about we we came to be like we are now. Funny how life changes in a heart-beat.

Now I'm headed off the grid post haste.

A bit brief for a novel. I think you are serializing a short story. This one is a very military and preppy sort of response. Many do this, most of the "off grid," places will be crowded and polluted. In the arteries leading to them will be clogged with the dead and dying.

You summed it up exactly like it is.

Stay safe, Miles. And pop up with your insightful stories more. The world needs to hear from a level-headed traveler, with your feet firmly on the ground. and your head brimming with truth.

Myles, your chapter (story) sounds like something that I have been feeling: Like we are now into 'Chapter One' of a non-fictional science-fiction novel.
