We have a huge problem in the way plastic flotillas are merging into what are called The 5 Gyres.
Gyres are when the ocean swirls around and around culminating into a collection of flotillas of large patches of garbage. These Gyres are gathering into big garbage patches in the Indian ocean, North and South Pacific ocean, North and South Atlantic ocean but, the Pacific ocean patch is the largest! It's said to be as large as the State of Texas!
These garbage patches are expanding into Lake Erie of the Great Lakes. Scientist are finding tiny; almost translucent microbeads so small, they can be mistaken for egg like plankton. The most recent surveying of the Great Lakes 5 Gyres area states that these plastics are coming from personal care products that have microbeads in them.
There are 200 different products which contain over half a million pounds of these microbeads. Just one tube or container can have up to 2,000 of these microbeads. Some toothpaste also have them in it. They are adding them into everything not thinking that this is to our own demise. Why are they so harmful?
They get coated with toxic corrosive chemicals such as PCB's and BPA. Fish and birds have been feeding from the Great Lakes for as long as time began.
These embe dded Microbeaded plastics are already in our food.
Scientist and Professor Markus Erickson, from The 5 Gyres institute in Los Angeles was on a tour with 14 students going to see where the battle of Midway took place between C.A . and Japan. While it is also home to thousands of albatross they were shocked to see that each carcass they came upon had a belly filled with plastic trash which doesn't break down.
Professor Marcus Erickson says that if we saw what the true fate of what this trash is doing to the albatross? Maybe people would change their ways. It causes the albatross to be less fit by losing muscle, have less energy, and fat because they think they are full. Then it perforates and lacerates their intestines making them sickly, weak and they die. The baby hatchlings have a higher mortality rate then those who don't feed off these areas of the Great Lakes.

Dr. Sherri Mason-Associates Program at NY College at Fredonia is only two miles from the shores of Lake Erie Great Lakes. She is the coordinator in collaboration with the 5 Gyres Institute Environmental Sciences Program. She has confirmed the results from a 2012 study that the micro-plastic beads are between 1/3 to 1 millimeter in size. They are tiny round products associated with petroleum production.They don't bio-degrade!
The life of these synthetics are 5000 to 1,000 years, they just don't go away!
The issues with that is the chemicals absorb into the plastics, and the plastic itself is incorporated with BPA to make it malleable, and PCB's attach to the plastics.
When they went to do a study, They pulled out of the Great Lakes what look like tiny fish eggs that fish, frogs, and a multitude of species are feeding on. The feed from these waters are harbingers of carcinogens. They disrupt the endocrine system. They also are unable to become pregnant.
There are records of fish changing gender! Male to female gender change is taking place! This also happens with the human population, and they are linked to synthetic micro plastic chemical embe dded plastics!
So people are scrubbing their faces to look younger while they are eating the product of their own demise. The Personal care products Toxic Control Act have not been tested for human health impact since1976 when 50,000 products were already on the market and hadn't been checked since then.
There now are tens of thousands more chemicals which have not been tested. There is a study going on now introduced by Chelsey Roschen, and Richard Davis who are looking at species like frogs, and mice, which are considered indicators species.
We can choose to buy apricot, oatmeal, and salt scrubs if we look, we will find them. We can also make our own.
There is an app. called Skin Deep it will tell you what is in the product you are thinking of buying.
If microbeads weren't a problem than why whould they make an app for it?
It's like saying Fukushima didn't happen, radioactive sludge isn't flowing into the Pacific and the earth is flat. No proof of any of it. Plenty of proof that children in China have thyroid cancer though. And, the flat earth? I can see the sun is round, I can see the moon is round so it makes sense that the earth is round. But, there is another theory. We live in a globe-like shell with the earth in the middle of a dome. People watch too much TV.
What we are talking about with the microbeads is the collection of the chemicals absorbing into the tissues of fish and animals are also absorbing into us.
Why do we even need microbeads? What did they use in the old days? They used washcloths and the smater ones used oatmeal to scrub with.
We knew the consequences of plastic when it first came out. We cannot have the albatrosse filled with plastic, dead on the beach with the only thing left being plastic!
They have since banned production and sale of products containing them.
