Some things capture your undivided attention, they captivate you for a time. Do you attract as much attention and do you do it deliberately?
I'm completely engrossed in a great email and I hear a song bird outside. It's not one I'm accustomed to hearing. It's a New-Song. I stop reading and I peer outside. I begin to fix my gaze in the direction this new song is coming from. I won't say it was a beautiful song. It was rather erratic, but not distressed. It was solo, yet reaching out. I could not find the source, but I continued, rolling my chair to the sliding glass door and sliding it fully open.
I stand and I lean this way and that, zooming and scanning the wonderful creation of my eyes further and further into the now lush green tree tops.
I can not find the source, but I'm transfixed. I can not think about anything else. I can not fully understand what it is singing but it is passionate.
No other birds are heard. The nearby mill is quiet. Not even the whisper of the wind through the trees can be heard. Only this New-Song.
Today is the National Day of prayer. We're to gather together and pray for the leaders from community to the highest offices in the land. I stood in a circle of a very small group and listened to the prayers. I had contemplated what to say when it was my turn to pray, before arriving. I didn't hear a New-Song. I heard about repentance and breaking down walls and plenty of thanks along with prayers for the military, which sent my mind spiraling into, "Who Would Jesus Flame?" Less than 30 minutes later the group disbanded and headed back to individual lives. Just like church on Sunday. No one is singing a New-Song. They gather to do what they've always done, bearing in mind that more needs to be done and it's not working. I have Hope that there is an Unseen Spirit at work for the good of those who believe and Trust in the Lord.
I wonder why a similar little southern town in this same state has a church of 8000, while we have 80 churches of 100. Why in nature, everything seems to work together. Water comes up from the earth in springs. It's utilized by everything nearby and it's evaporated skyward, only to fall and bless another group, another day, in some far away place. Yet the most special of all creations, Man, can't agree on a doctrine or a method to serve, praise and worship the same Creator.
We're missing our purpose. That bird demonstrated its created purpose. As I now type these words, once again I can hear the incessant Mill running and a few different familiar birds singing the same old tunes. It all fades into background noise, even the on time blaring train whistle; all too common.
I'll not soon forget this new song I heard, and I pray I hear it again and it never grows old or common. It grabbed my attention and held it intensely, to the point where I had to stop what I was doing and seek it out more and then, Then, THEN, I HAD to tell you all about it.
Sounds very similar to an encounter I had with Jesus. May that experience NEVER grow old and may I NEVER stop telling others about it, in a manner that makes them STOP and take notice, with a New-Song!
I pray you hear a New-Song, so wonderful, that you're stirred so deeply, that you have to tell everyone about it and it Never grows old in you. And I ask you to pray for me, that some how, when I write and I speak, it stirs the very same song, beyond containment and I sing it in a New Way.
