The footy shark 

I had arrived in Queensland to see Danielle my daughter 

normally I stayed at my daughter Danielle's place, 

but this visit I stayed at Corey, my son’s house 

he lives by a creek that runs into the river Nerang 

it flows into the ocean near the Gold coast and Surfers Paradise 

so..... 

there we are 

had been trail bike ridin 

BBQ time 

Corey has a staffie dog....Budd 

loves a cooked snag...( sausage) 

or anything else off the barby plate actually...

anyway....more about that later... 

so there is me, Corey 

my daughter Danni, her boyfriend, Luke 

and a few of Corey’s mates were there 

and their girlfriends

 all BBQ'n away

 hot sunny day

 after our nosh(feed)

 we are outback of Corey’s house 

there’s about a 40 yard strip of grass before the creek bank

 the creek is say…

 25 yards across, about 10 feet deep right in middle

 we decide to play footy

 Aussie footy fellas

 no pads

 tackle

 tho not really full on tackle

 hard enough

no helmets

well

we iz mad buggas downunder or upunder ;)he he

 anyway..

 the girls played too

 tho the tackles were just holds on them

 Danni kicks off

 Corey catches.....runs like a bloody whippet along the bank edge

 fires inside pass

 I catch it...

step

 step again

 tackled, but I spin in tackle...two steps

 flick pass

 Tim bursts onto the pass

 crashes through Luke n Clarkey’s tackles

 chip kicks ahead

 the ball skews into the creek

 ( back yard footy here....touchline extends infinitely in both

directions...so jumping fences...or swimming...
as long as you get across the line...he he) 

as the ball floats in the creek,, it starts heading upstream..

 ( the creek is affected by sea tidal flow) 

Corey runs like the wind

  leaps off small log and "flies"

into middle of creek

landing on ball

and

at same time

swimming "across"...touchline

a score!!!!!!

next kick-off

happens to be me

big stab kick

rumbles along ground

Luke scoops it up 

runs hard straight back at us

 I tackle him and as I’m drillin him

he passes to davo...( ..more like....barney from simpsons)

 he runs...if ya can call it that

 bumps off 3 people

 when I drive into him sideways and Corey up top

 still

he flicks a pass backwards

 Luke is there again

 this time, as danni tries  to get him

and he jumps over Corey’s back fence 

runs past BBQ

 where

 Budd

remember Budd??, the stocky staffie?

 he is standing on a chair

 ( how'd that chair get there????)

 munchin a big BBQ sausage

 as Luke sprints past he grabs a sausage for himself,

 still running....he leaps back over fence

 heading for touchline

 while takin a bite outta a blackened bbq snag

 now

he a fast little bugga

 but it’s never easy

 carryin a footy

 chewin a snag

 skirtin the creek edge

with me

Corey

Danni

 Dazza

and Clarkey chasin him

 and Luke, he decides to ditch the snag

 in the creek

 ( there is a large splash just caught in the corner of vision )

 and Luke turns

 just as we get to him

 but he scores

 extra point for scoring with an appertiff in hand

 meanwhile...the splash....

 Luke says....

 Budd!!!

 remember Budd?

 Corey says what?

 Luke relates Budd tale at barbie , the dog chewin  a snag while standing on a

chair

 and....assuming Budd had chased him...

 as Budd loves a good chase

 and when he ditched the snag

 Budd did a "Corey"

 but

 tho there are still ripples of the splash

no Budd

hmm

so we walk back along creek

no Budd

Danni says

 "Budd is over there"

 we all look

 Budd is still at BBQ

 only now

 he has a big fat steak

 and is goin for his life

 maulin it like a pirahna fish

 he see's everyone lookin see

 so he's going out with as much as he can savage

 he he

 Corey heads straight for Budd

 Budd has finished his steak

 and quickly grabs another

and bolts like a banshee

 Corey is in red-hot  pursuit

 But Budd scores!

yayyyyy!

 anyway

 the footy game

 kicks off again

 this time

they kick off

 Clarky runs it up

 passes to Danni

 she runs like a graceful cat

 but

in a surprise move

 chip kicks

Deliberately ........out into the creek

 as Corey is runnin in ready for a pass

 and another dive bomb try

 into the water

 the ball hits with a big  

"SPLASH"

 and Corey hits the water soon after

 ......

Corey pops up

 spinnin in  water..lookin for ball

 no ball

 we all look

 where’s the ball?

 they suspected he had it hidden underwater  

stashed under his shirt and were gonna tackle him
but Corey swan ashore

 no ball

 we looked

 hey...where is that ball?

 a few seconds later

 a large splash again

 .........further upstream

 "across the touchline"

 the ball pops up

 after a bull sharks head appears and lets it go

 a silence as loud as a mountain follows

 with jaws slack

 and eyes wide

 Corey says

 F#$%# me dead

 didja see that bugga!

 insert some heavy bugs bunny eyebrow action here

 as I say to the others

 hmm....that’s another try to us fella's

 we're ahead again

 your kickoff

 ya better go git the ball you fellas....unless ya wanna cede defeat?

 ( ahhh....a koori challenge)

 he he

 anyway

davo is a murri

a local Aborigine

 so davo (mingja, his murri name)

 he just goes over

 looks about 

then just jumps in about waist deep

 an grabs ball

 which is almost flat

 but we decide

 footy’s over

 yes

 that was best darn touchdown I ever seen

 Corey was good

 got heaps of "air'

with a big splash and bomb

 and a 'score'

but sharky' 

ahh that bugga

 no one layed not a hand on him...

didn’t even see him till he scored

 now there’s a footy player

 that Bull shark

 no ones ever took him on since

he’s just too good

 ps

on a serious note

3 people got taken by sharks in the weeks not long after

lots around those water ways breeding...them bull sharks

 that’s me yarn for now
