How to guard ourselves from impure thoughts.

                                  Impure Thoughts

Our brains are always working we are told even when we sleep.  We are constantly processing thoughts about something some good, bad or indifferent.

Sometimes these thoughts can be warm, friendly, innocent, benign, loving, caring, non-threatening, centered on life’s circumstances, events, politics, sports, music, spiritual, and many, many more.

Some of these may not necessarily damage us nor have the potential of hurting others.  However, then there are thoughts that enter our brain that are just the opposite. They might be about anger towards someone we feel has wronged us.  These may revisit us frequently.  Others may be our prejudices against different things or people.  All of us regardless of race have them.

We might look down on someone because of the way they look, dress, talk or their education or lack of it.  It could be their occupations, or what kind of house they live in or the car they drive.  It might be their thoughts on God, people we worship with, friends, or even family members.

In church we might feel some of the people are cold, impersonal, non-friendly.  The preacher might be to dry or too holy.  As you can see this can go on and one.

And of course, sometimes we will dwell on these thoughts sometimes endlessly it seems.  This of course can spell major problems for us.

How in the world then can we be happy and well adjusted?  How can we guard against thoughts that are not conducive to healthy living. The only answer appears to be in attacking this problem head on.

Below are 10 suggestions to help in dealing with impure thoughts.

  1. Start first with God’s help and ask him for it
  2. Monitor your television or movie watching refraining from those we know are unhealthy
  3. Do kind things for those around us
  4. Listen to music that uplifts us
  5. Go visit people that are sick and have prayer with them
  6. Provide food or other assistance for someone you know that needs it
  7. Volunteer for a cause you know is worthy
  8. Avoid those that are majoring in the negative things
  9. Tell at least one person every day, I Love You and mean it
  10. When you find yourself having impure thoughts, say a prayer right then for God to take it away

These suggestions will help us to program our brains into being more positive.  By accenting pure thoughts, our impure thoughts will decrease. They will lessen but unfortunately banning them from existence completely will not happen as long as we are in this old world.

The sweetest pleasures are those which do not exhaust hope. Our thoughts are the creative ability to give us, for a moment, the hope that wouldn't necassarily be the future but none the less makes us warm for a short while.
Your wisdom is in every word.
I'm coming back to pack this weekend and say farewell to Middle Georgis Aubrey. It will be sad I know.
