Why do our political leaders sanction the Abuse of Our Nations Children under the pretense of a law, which is supposed to protect them?
Why do we, the voters and parents of these children allow this tragedy to continue?

Throughout this Nation, Mothers, Fathers and little children sit safely in their own homes unaware that one phone call could change their lives forever.
No, I am not talking about being informed you are a sweepstakes winner, the prize you are awarded is undue interference and the experience of no due process.

All it takes is one angry neighbor, one teacher who doesn’t think you dress your child reasonably, or an inlay who has an ax to grind.

This call could even come from your own child, as they are told often in school that if you don’t like how your parents treat you, give Uncle Sam a call and he’ll fix it.

They pick up the phone and call the Abuse Hotline. Within a few days a CPS (child protection service) worker and perhaps a sheriff deputy show up on your doorstep.
You are informed that a call in has been received and they need to speak with you and your children to make sure everyone is all right.

At first they seem helpful enough, after all it is their job to protect children and the rights of families to be together. They only have your best interest in mind. Or so they say.

In reality, once you let them in you have waived your rights not to speak to them, to allow them to use each word you say against you, to take the dirty dishes and toys in the floor and build a case of neglect against you.

Their next step is to ask a judge to give them “protective custody” of your poor little children so they can assure the children’s safety. They then remove your children without due process, after all you haven’t been charged with any crime. Your frightened children are forcefully removed from your loving home by strangers and placed with more strangers.

You will probably get a court appointed attorney at this time and he will recommend you sign papers with CPS in order to get your children back home. Big Brother and Big Sister only want to be sure that you are capable of protecting them and providing for them.

You are not told that signing this paper waives your right to due process, that now you are tightly in the grips of the “system”.
The child welfare system receives Federal taxpayer money to hold children hostage after illegally removing them from their parents.

This is a National Epidemic in the United States. You have a chance of 1 in 70 of having a flat tire, but you have a 1 in 25 chance of being investigated for child abuse/neglect. In some states you have a 1 in 5 chance of the government invading the privacy of your home.
Most of us have a spare tire in our trunks, but I don’t know a single parent who has a spare child.

Most of us think that children are removed from families in only the worst cases… NOT TRUE. Here are a few conditions social workers look for to suggest abuse.
Not having a heavy coat, no matter the child just didn’t want to wear it that day.
Shoes and clothes that are torn or ripped.. no matter that is a fashion statement with some children.
Homes where both parents work, single parent homes, poverty homes, children raised by Grandparents, children whose parents have had run ins with the law.. (how many speeding tickets have you had?)
Children who do poorly in school, children with “special needs”, these children really help the states to rake in the big bucks when they are in care.

If you have access to enough money you can pay for some level of justice, but expect it to be expensive. I have spoken with several families whose cost range from $22,000 to $85,000. Do you have access to this much cash in order to protect your family?

You may be thinking that surely these families have somehow abused their children in order for them to be removed. Abuse does not have to be charged in criminal court in order for you to loose your children. The state workers right down “unsubstantiated”, that means they can’t prove it, but they suspect it.

According to a recent report released by the Government, “Child Maltreatment 1998: Reports to the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect,” 18% of children in foster care were removed from their homes under reports of “unsubstantiated reports of child maltreatment.

This simply means, if you are suspected, you are guilty until you can afford to prove your innocence. In the process your children are terrified, often go long periods of time without seeing their parents and sometimes other siblings.
They loose their school friends, as they are placed in school close to the foster parents.

Your family, your children carry a high price tag to the individual state where you live. Each child that is removed from the parent’s home brings more federal money into your state. The nationwide budget for removing children and keeping them in foster care, in therapist’s care, even if they do not need therapy is higher than the National Defense Budget.

The ultimate shame of it all for this Nation is that children removed from their parents home are more likely to be abused while in State care than they were in the home they were removed from.
Physical abuse among 100,000 children shows 59 cases in the children’s home with 160 cases in foster/state care.
Sexual abuse shows 13 in family homes, 112 in foster/state care.
These numbers are not mine, they are the result of a government study, NCCAN Data.

Why do our political leaders sanction the Abuse of Our Nations Children under the pretense of a law, which is supposed to protect them?
Why do we, the voters and parents of these children allow this tragedy to continue?
I urge you to search through the CAPTA law in effect, research your state laws, talk with parents and educate yourself and others.
Know what is going on, and be prepared… YOUR family could be next.
