Christmas is my favorite holiday. I have been abundantly blessed to be able to celebrate many Christmases with my family. But Christmas 2014 will always be very special to me.
Christmas 2014 was the first time I had learned about Haiti Children formerly Mercy & Sharing. Haiti Children is a one-of-a-kind organization whose mission is to provide care and education to abandoned, orphaned, and disabled children in Haiti. After attending a gala, I decided I would donate money from my book proceeds to Haiti Children.
I am Haitian American and I was deeply touched by people’s generosity. At the gala one person purchased a Peyton Manning-signed jersey for $1,500 dollars. Another purchased a Ty Lawson-signed jersey for $2,500.
During the 2010 earthquake 13 family members perished. Even though my family made a substantial donation in 2010, but now it is a family tradition to make a yearly donation before Christmas in honor of all the cousins that perished in the 2010 earthquake.
We figured we can’t bring them back, but we certainly can help honor their memory by helping those in need.
This is why Christmas 2014 will forever be engraved in my memory as a very special Christmas.
