Call me old fashioned, and I will argue I am not. Indeed, though I have been around for 63 years, I love the techno world, though I do hate the tacky world.
It is for me more in your face as you look at shopping areas, all these tacky plastic, shout at you, shop fronts. Nothing about them that invites except the appearance of 'Hey Cheap'. Gone the old wooden fronted shop windows, then above the ornate hand painted display like, 'Hubbard & Son General Store'. Then as you walked in you always had the ding of a door bell. Slowly as the owners sold up, in came the new, the age of mass prodused shopfitters. You rip out the old and ram in an aluminium framed frontage with cheap plastic facia, as well as a door that sticks that never dings. At first it looked new, but as the decades have rolled on, you cannot tell one shop from another, to me they all look like seedy betting shops.
I have seen whole towns change into these ugly blights of no personality shops. It is such a shame when once upon a time, the shops had identity, history and a friendly invite. What the plastic fronts have done is remove all that and replaced it with what has no character, in turn this has turned shopping areas in towns and villages into cheap looking fast food type outlets, surely there was some value in retaining the character of the shops to retain the appearance of the town or village.
Whatever planning has gone on in allowing this ugly blight of plastic frontage, it could not have been that of a sound human mind.
