People who have a lot of money and material things, are sometimes suspect as to how they got their wealth in the first place. With a mentality of, "my mansion is bigger than yours...and my yacht is longer than yours!" (YAWN!) I've never had a lot of money or material things, but I know money can be the root of all evil...and many times money can only bring jealousy, resentment, and miss-trust, etc.
One day, I was standing in line in a grocery store, and standing in front of me, was a young lady about twenty years old wearing a pair of designer jeans. After her groceries were checked, she paid for them with an EBT card (food stamps), and I think there was something wrong with this picture. I think this woman had her priorities mixed up!
This is a story you might not believe, but it's true . My wife's cousin moved from California to Albuquerque, N.M., and bought a house. Her and her husband loved the southestern art produced by Native American artisans. That's fine...nothing wrong with that.
But, my wife told me, that in order to afford and pay for the art they bought...they would do it, by not turning on the heat at their house in the winter...or not turning on the air conditioning in the summer! By doing this, they could spend the savings on art work! Outrageous, I thought!
Sure enough...on our first visit to their house on a cold winter day, the heat was not turned on, and everyone who was there, had to bundle up and wore at least a sweater or a jacket, etc. This was the first and the last time I visited these selfish and inconsiderate people!

Again...I was waiting in line to purchase tickets to a concert, and I got into a conversation with a woman standing in front of me. The converstation centered around success...and what was important to each of us. She told me that success to her meant that she would be able to raise her children and grand-children in the right way, that it, with values, integrity and that they stay out of trouble. This is a woman who has her priorities in order, for there is no job more diffecult than to be a good parent! Getting satisfaction in life, can come in many different ways, and a person doesn't need a lot of money or material things to make them happy.
Wood carving: As a woodcarver for over 25 years, I'm out of the art and craft world, and I have no background in writing whatsoever. During this time, I carved over 200, original cartoon-characters in wood. To do this, I had to reach down into my imagintaion to create things that had never been done before, giving me great satisfaction in the process, etc. Most hobbies do not have a lot of cost.
Writing: How much can writing cost? Writing is therapeutic for me, and I get great satisfaction, in stringing words along to share and help others with my articles.
Volunteer work: The American people are the most giving people in the world...giving of their time...the money...and of themselves (blood, etc.) Doing volunteer work, for me, has been quite rewarding, and is one of the most honorable things a person can do!

Keeping up with the Jones'...forget it! (Yawn, again!) I don't care about your money, your status, your toys, or your gas-guzzlers in the driveway! Show me your resume...what are you doing for others...the poor; the dis-abled; children; the elderly; pet; wildlife; the environment...what are you doing?
