After about six hours of all this pain and discomfort in the stomach area, I called 911, and I was lying on the bed when they arrived. I told them, that I was in such bad shape, that if the apartment building where I lived was on fire...I could not get out! (I live on the 5th floor)
I spent about 12 hours in the emergency room at the hospital that awful day...and I was released. A few days after my episode with constipation, I wrote an article, and described the details of what happened, and the reader can go to the following link to find out how all this occurred, etc.

After my release from the emergency room, I wanted to try to find out of a natural product to take, so something like this would not happen to me again! By the way, the emergency room doctor, the nurse and myself didn't know why this episode happened to me.
So, at the age of 64 in 2009, I had never drank prune juice in my life...never! Over the years, I had heard that prune juice was associated with constipation and the elderly, etc. Now, that I'm part of the elderly, I had better pay attention and find out what this prune juice is all about. I did a little research on prune juice, so that maybe an incident like this will not ever happen to me again. My first thoughts when the ambulance took me to the emergency room were, "Is this what happens to a person when they get old?"
"Dinah Shore formed a foundation to locate missing senior citizens, by putting their pictures on prune juice bottles." Red Buttons
I bought my first 64oz. bottle of prune juice in June, 2009, but I wasn't sure at the time how much to take and how to take it. I decided to sip a little each day, and, as a result, I drank the whole bottle in about two weeks, and then I bought another bottle...and then another...and so forth. I never had any problems with prune juice...no constipation...no diahhrea...no runs...no hits...no errors...as they say in baseball!
From: WiseGeek.com: What are the health benefits of prune juice? The most beneficial nutrient in prunes and prune juice, is soluble fiber. Prunes are high in antioxidents called phenols, and are believed to be beneficial to the tissues of the body. Phenols studies suggest are helpful in blocking oxygen-based free radicals from damaging the body fats. As skin cell and brain cell membranes are composed mostly of fats, drinking prune juice may help protect against cell damage to these vital areas.

In September, 2009, I had another attack, only this time I didn't call 911 and I didn't need an ambulance nor did I go to the emergency room. At the end of the day, I looked back at what might have cause a seconed attack of constipation...and the answer was clear in my mind...the medication I was given for diabetes! (metformin). I cut the medication in half right away, and made an appointment to see my doctor right away.
He took me off metformin, and put me on another medication and reduced the dosage. But, that wasn't the end of my bout with the medication. About the first week of October, 2009, I got a cramp in the bottom of my right foot...and I started to limp around for about a week. I started to get 'pins and needles' on the right side and numbness as well. And, then my right hand started to cramp up...and I felt like I was getting a stroke!
I called 911 and was again taken to the hospital, where I was admitted and where I spent the next two days over Columbus Day week-end. The doctors couldn't find out what was wrong with me, after I had about five tests. After I was discharged, I had an appointment with the neuologist...and still they could not find what was wrong with me.
Doctors are not usually going to tell you what they think the problem, if they think it's the medication that they prescribed...that is causing the problem. Until the end of 2009, I had numbness and pins and needles in the right foot...and it could only be as the after-effects of the medication prescribed to me in April and dis-continued in October, 2009.
Everyone knows that medication can be dangerous, and this is a perfect example of how dangerous medications can be. With a little research, I found out that medications in this country is the #4 killer in America. And, the reader can read that piece at the following link;

"I'm taking Viagra and drinking prune juice...I don't know if I'm coming or going!" Rodney Dangerfield
I am not a pill-popper...and I just illustrated the danger of drugs or chemicals in our lives. I'm trying to everything I can to reduce the taking of chemical medications and I have gotten results.
Do you really think your doctor will prescribe olive oil; prune juice; blueberries, etc. Do you live in a cave? Uh?
For the first time in my life, I went into a health food store about 15 years ago...and I want to tell you...it was pretty scary! Good food all over the place...it just took my breath away! 'How could the government allow such a place,' I thought to myself.
Granted, I'm not one of those health food nuts or a vegetarian, but I have eaten more bunny food than I ever have in my life. When I started drinking prune juice, I was so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o worried that my old age would show! Whew! But, at my age, I can still go out on the dance floor, and 'shake my booty' along side those snot-nosed 30, 40 and 50 year olds!
Let me do the math, shall we...over 18 months of drinking prune juice...at a 64 oz. bottle every two weeks...I have drank about 18 million bottles of prune juice! Don't get in my way...suckah...you've been warned!
From: Buzzle.com; What are the health benefits of prune juice? useful in the treatment of constipation; dietary fibers; antioxident present; absorbing nutrients; prevents the building of acidity; heart rythum; high potassium content; stabilizes sugars/diabetes/type 2; losing weight; can prevent cancer;

Yes...Jer's little excellent adventure, with the use of prune juice has gone well over the past 18 months! (burp!) (knock on wood)
Prune juice benefits...are the butt of many jokes...but prunes and prune juice are bursting with goodness!
With that...I have to go-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o SEE YA! (yawn, here)
