Short inpirational on love and mediation.
Loving Heart
“The mind is naturally radiant and pure. It is because of visiting defilements that we suffer.”
-Buddha
As we, all move forward in enlightenment and spiritual growth, how beautiful it is to know that our minds and energies are indeed pure; and can be realigned no matter what our lives have encountered in the past. This means, we can heal.
Through the power of positive thought, all things are possible. In Buddhism, the practice of Metta is the ability to embrace all parts of ourselves, as well as all parts of the world. This is one of my favorite aspirations, and practices; personally. The hard work and repetition required of an individual engaged in Metta practice endows the four universal wishes (to live happily and to be free from hostility, affliction, and distress), with a very personal inner love, and by so doing, it has the power for personal transformation. Metta heightens our inner integrity because it helps us to heal the negative energies that have built up around each of us over the years. (Refer to Anatomy of the Spirit, Carolyn Myss). We can open to everything with the healing force of love.
When we are able to practice self-love, Metta, and love for others; we can begin to erase the negativity of the mind, and soul. No matter what our life situations may be, we learn to live our lives without fear, because our minds rest. Buddha taught that when we have this practice, the emotions of anger, guilt, fear, (negative emotions) become only visitors they are fleeting.
The person, who practices Metta, is a person whose mind is pure and radiant; is whole. They are not damaged by uncertainty and change. When the negative emotions visit, it is natural to reflect on them, or respond to them because of natural conditioning. However, it is important to realize, that responding to these emotions is not a reflection of who we are and thus we should not allow ourselves to judge each other or OURSELVES harshly. If we learn to understand Metta, and loving kindness, and practicing love, kindness, and encompassing love, we can understand unconditional true love. Negativity generated within ourselves or within others can be encountered with unconditional love. Nothing is stronger or more healing than Metta.
Metta is healing in it’s own support, and thus it is free in inherently unstable conditions. The loving mind can observe joy and peace in one moment, and then tremendous turbulence in the next moment. A pure and radiant mind might shortly shake, but it will not crumble. Through it’s own pure love, and pre-existing conditioning, it will rebound, and recover and the true loving mind will heal and transform.
One can take this practice a step further in meditations by sending love through the Universe to others – you can send Metta to loved ones, health, happiness, safety, peace, - positive energy. Love can travel anywhere.
Another practice or meaning of Metta, is “Friend”. Buddha taught that a very good friend is someone who is there in times of happiness and in times of adversity. A friend will not forsake us when we are in trouble, nor rejoice in our misfortune. – He also teaches us, that we must be FRIENDS TO OURSELVES, first.
When we are trying to self-heal, and transform the negative energies around us, it is important to understand that nobody in the Universe will love us more than we will love ourselves. Once we love ourselves, FIRST, then, through the positive energies we begin emitting, we will then start attracting positive and loving people and energies around us.
Metta Meditation
(Meditation on "Loving Kindness")
May I be at peace.
May my heart remain open.
May I awaken to the light of my own true nature.
May I be healed.
May I be a source of healing for all beings.
