A short discussion on the religious motif in my novel. (not finished)
As far as religion goes, my novel really has only two things that figure hugely in the lives of the average person on that Earth: the Soul Ring and the Abyss or Nether Regions.
Basically, the universal belief is that if you are good, your soul goes to the Soul Ring when you die. The Soul Ring is a line of self-luminous particles, bright enough to be viewed by day, that circles the Earth approximately where the Moon is in our reality. Only Ethermen and Etherwomen know much about it. It is thought to be a place of repose for the dead by most of the common people. The Abyss, on the other hand, is were one's soul is imprisoned if evil. It is also the home of the Nether Beings, creatures of great evil who seldom interfere with the world of man...which s just as well!
Of course, all of the separate religions preach different outcomes for one's dying On the Earth in the novel, the Greek and Roman gods coexist, along with the sanctioned pantheons of the other religions. Christianity even exists, although mostly in the Holy Russian Empire. Though not mentioned, it is probable that Judaism also exists there. Due to the fact that the Earth that is focused on in the book is one of wonder, even the weakest of gods has some Power.
