Then God opened Hagar’s eyes, and she saw a well full of water.  She quickly filled her water container and gave the boy a drink.

Over the course of our lives, we may find that we face the same difficulties over and over again.  There may be many times when we don’t have enough money to make ends meet or we continually face job stress, even on different jobs with different people.  If we really think about it, we could search the events of our lives and find many examples of where the same problem keeps reoccurring.

However, when we conduct this life search, we may discover that God has continually met us in our same place of need.  Since we have experienced the grace of God in the past, we can have confidence that we may also experience God’s grace in the future.

In Genesis 16:7, we find Hagar, the maidservant of Sarai, in the desert fleeing from Sarai’s mistreatment.  I can imagine that running in the desert would make one thirsty.  We see in this passage that God met Hagar’s need for refreshment by providing her with a spring of water.  Genesis 16:7 states that the angel of the LORD found Hagar near a spring in the desert.

In Genesis 21:19, we again find Hagar roaming in the desert.  This time it was because Abraham had sent both Hagar and her son away.  When Hagar had run out of water, she cried for she feared that her son, Ishmael, would surely die.  Ishmael must have also been crying because the passage states that God heard the boy crying.  Again, God made a way for Hagar.  The passage states that God opened Hagar’s eyes and she saw a well of water.  Again, when Hagar was in need of water, God provided for her, even in a desert place.

God constantly meets our needs.  Sometimes, all we have to do is ask God to open our eyes so that we may see His blessings.  We will perpetually experience difficulties in our lives, but time and time again, we can trust that God will be there for us and make a way.
