Penwose Speaks of Words

Good Evening,

Is it Wednesday already? It seems like it is always whatever day it is at the moment.

One tends to think that everyone else is not unlike himself, with similar hopes and dreams and video preferences, however I must concede there are probably those I suppose who keep the remote on top of the tele.

This writing is for those who have heard the adage, A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS, which encompasses all of you who may not have heard it before but have now.
The perception is meant to give credence to pictures, and well it does.

A question comes to mind. If given a choice between the two, which would we embrace?

A picture is a beautiful and wondrous work of art. Everything is there before our eyes whether painted or photographed. Vital evidence in a court of law or similar scenarios requiring proof. There are no needs to imagine what the scene looks like. We see exactly what we see before us.

Words are different. We see nothing. There are only words. Word after word after word, etc.
So why then would we not choose a beautiful painting?

As both an artist and a writer I will say unequivocally without hesitation that I would choose the thousand words every time.

The picture is there. We all see the same picture. It is what it is…and nothing more

Words are wonderful. They inspire us. They invigorate our minds. They make us laugh. They make us cry. They give us hope. They tell us of future things and things gone by and how to do things.

Everyone sees a written story differently. We read the words and see them in our minds. The simplest detail is imagined ten different ways by ten different readers. In our minds we are in the story.

I can do nothing with the picture.

A thousand words can become a thousand stories. They can be scrabbled and transposed. I can turn them into new stories over and over again. A creative mind can do repeated wonders to no end. A poet can do evermore.

A simple phrase can mean something entirely different when scrabbled…She was my wife…Was she my wife?
Imagine what a thousand can do.

I hope this in no way devalues the worth of a picture.

This word conglomeration was published previously. Since then I have been visited in my dreams by Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Picasso, and other Masters, who claim their paintings sell for Millions and challenge me to bring forth a thousand words with the same price tag.
I said that maybe some of my works will someday?
They said, “Yeah, when you’re dead like us!”

To them I say, “Touché”
