Humpback Barn Festival marks my fifth consecutive year as one of the highlights spoken word gatherings. Humpback Festival was where it all began for me, and people who knew me more than I knew my own ability to be a serious poet literally bugged me to death to be part of it.
I'm glad I have stubborn friends who won't allow me to say "no."
Everytime we meet at Minnetrista, we remember Mildred's dream. And as she endures severe osteoporosis, it has not stopped her from coming to this festival year after year as her health allows.
"Thanks Mildred, for bringing out the poet hiding in me."

Mildred Triver's Poem: Old Barn, Grey Barn
I like you best when the wind from the west, old barn, Lifts you east, old barn, On the crest of the storm, When you race through the gale Like a sloop in full sail In a test of your joist and oak beam. Fly high in the sky, race through space, old barn, But return once again To your place by the stream, For aloft in the hay I’ve stowed memory away And you carry a cargo of dream.
