How to Be Prepared Tips!

These tips are not prioritized.

#1 After praying as a family then Get Prepared!!!!

#2 Find several battery operated Radios and get them ready in case there is a power outage. Get as many flashlights and candles as you can locate. Everybody needs their own flashlight, if possible.

#3 Cook your dinner early before the storm hits so that you can have food for the family(ies). You may have company...Buy paper products!

#4 Stock up on your bottled water. Store drinking water in jugs and freeze for later. If you are directly impacted and the water is shut off, you'll also need water for personal hygiene issues. Thank God, we did not have that problem.

#5 Charge your cell phones and locate phones that are not portable phones. (Portable phones do not work when power is out.)

#6 Gas up all vehicles including motorcycles and fill gas cans if possible. If you do not have gas cans, buy them ASAP.

#7 Get a Battery operated T.V.

#8 If you have small children, charge Gameboys, pull out the CD player and get batteries for them; pull out the board games and UNO cards for entertainment...

#9 Get ice chest ready for food storage such as drinks, milk, cold cuts, etc...You will lose coolness in your fridge the more you open it so a cooler helps.

#10 Wash all your clothes now. Iron something if needed for children to wear. Ladies when there is no power there is no hair dryer or hot curlers.

#11 Buy a generator and portable fans.

#12 Since we were under Tornado warnings during the hurricane threat, we had to designate a fall-out shelter within our house for safety. Please don't overlook a designated place for your family to go safety.

#13 Remember too that you may have to extend a helping hand to other family and friends during their time of need. Check on your neighbors after the storm to see if they are okay. Volunteer at a shelter.

I can't think of anymore helpful hints, but this is what we needed to know prior to the storm.
