The American tax system was designed to say "hip hip HooRAY!" to business owners. Yet for the average Joe & Josephina (i.e." ye ole employee) the tax system may as well say, "A pox on you, ye rubbish!"

Now if I correctly recall, y'all, didn't some French dude once chisel on a big ol' monument that sits in a not-so-sparkling New York harbor:

"Give me your tired, your poor. . .your huddled masses yearning to be bankrupt (whoops,. . . my bad!) poor ?"
