Chapter Nine

The Castle of Delphina

The two wee leprechauns left the field of melons and their new found friend Helen the melon. North they go through the forest continuing on their journey. The forest got darker and darker and it was so eerie. There were trees that had black green moss hanging down from their branches. Patee and Maree stayed close to each other. Walking step by step they came to a stone wall with the spiked black iron gate. They knew now that they had arrived at the castle of Delphina the evil sorceress. The black cats surrounded the castle. They were everywhere. The black cats had yellow eyes and were very scary. Patee and Maree moved forward closer to the spiked black iron gate. On the gate was a big lock clasped tightly so no one could enter. Maree asked, “Oh Patee do you remember Hootie the owl gave us some magical feathers?” “Yes, I do.” said Patee. Maree pulled out one of the feathers and wanded it over the lock on the gate. The gate quickly unlocked and opened wide. The creeking of the gate and the dropped lock stirred the black cats. They heard the two little leprechauns opening the gate. All of a sudden all the black cats started screeching noises to alert the evil sorceress, Delphina. Patee took the magical feather from Maree and wanded it in the air. He waved the feather back and forth towards the approaching cats. All of the black cats rose up into the air and fell down to the ground into a deep sleep. There were black cats lying everywhere and you could hear them all purring so loudly. Patee and Maree headed towards the draw bridge that led to the castle door. They walked slowly between all the black cats lying on the ground so quietly. Patee said, “Maree go quickly, so that we don’t wake up any of the black cats.” So quietly they crossed the bridge over the water moat below. There stood before them a giant door on the castle with a door handle shaped like a cat. Maree took out one of the magical feathers that Hootie the owl had given them. She waved the feather over the door handle lock and it sprung open wide. They were now in the castle of the evil sorceress, Delphina. They stepped inside into a large open area. There was a giant fire roaring in the wall fireplace. Everything inside seemed so big to the two wee lil leprechauns. There was a staircase that led up a huge upper floor. The leprechauns move quietly and decide to go upstairs and search around.
