Recently I was reading about the might and influence of the Iranian "Guard"  in that country. The "Guard" - the "Pasdar" who came about after Ayatollah Khomeini took over Iran, and about whom I talk in "Dreaming of America," is the main force on which the Iranian Islamic regime and Ahmadinejad depend. Asides being militant and fierce fighters, they  also have a hand in every aspect of the  Iranian economy. The suppreme Iranian leader and Ahmadinejad in order to buy their loyalty, allow the members of the "Guard" to have a stake in every important enterprise. It should not be forgotten that the "Guard" - the Pasdar - fought in Iran Iraq War, although they do not belong to the Iranian Army. There might be some elemants in the army that might not be totally loyal to the Islamic regime, while the "Guard" is a dedicated force that is used by the Iranian government in anti government demonstrations, rather than the military. Thus, the "Guard" is mostly busy bashing the Iranian opposition, while also managing to fill its members' pockets. Mr. Hossein Mousavi, the oppposition leader said about two weeks ago in a statement posted on a web site linked to him, "If the 'Guard' has to calculate on its abacus every day to see how much the prices of their shares have gone up or down, it cannot defend the coutry and national interests."
