As someone that has helped students edit their CVs and later worked as a recruiter, I've seen thousands of CVs in my first several years out in the job market. I can't stress the importance of editing your application so that it applies to the role you're applying for.
As a recruiter, I could see two resumes from two cashiers. One of them wrote that they worked at the cash register. The second one indicated that she could serve up to 30 customers per hour. Which one am I more likely to call?
I would definitely call the second one since I can see that she was busy. The first applicant might have been even more busy and had a higher performance, but how can I guess? Unless the candidate has put it on the CV, I can't assume anything for them.
Remember that recruiters go through so many applications every day, so you need to make their job easier if you want chance to be on your side. Try to make it clear that you were busy, quantify it if at all possible, and be proud of your accomplishments. Next, we will tackle more issues about job hunting and see if there are any ways to work from home.
Busy recruiters prefer one-page resumes that accurately sum up a person's life well. That may be unfortunate for those with a long history of accomplishment and better for someone just starting out in the working world. Detailing my accomplishments without verbiage, just lists, now numbers 11 pages. Recruiters would immediately dismiss me as "overeducated" or "not focused."
I disagree with your assumption about serving 30 customers in an hour. While that speaks of efficiency, it does not tell me whether or not the applicant is lying or bragging. A better, but more time-consuming approach would be a simple test of a cashier's ability through a trial run. Personality and accuracy counts a lot for customer service like cashiering.
Also, a resume is not an application. Unfortunately, nearly all companies require a detailed application that may or may not parallel a resume. That's a shame, but companies tend to have to meet regulations that require them to ask questions like, "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" No one will put that on their resume unless they want to be infamous. ;-)
