When Everything Good Is Killed by Abdi-Noor Haji MohamedI just try to portray the situation of the Somali youth who have made
deviations from the normal path of morality and sound ethics of survival as a result of the war.
This nation has lost everything known to be good and our youth are the most vulnerable category of the population as they are exposed to various risks ranging from falling into warlord trap to becoming drug addicts. They do not have centers with adequate facility to spend time or take training for a better life in the future.
There are no professional counseling institutions where the youth can seek emotional support in case the storms and stress of time disturb them or having their youthful ambitions hit the rocks. Most serious of all is that they have no role models to imitate as almost every Somali has one way or the other took part in the war and is defending his clan both morally and materially.
The only personality they copy is that of the warlord whom they think is the
best man in the world because he has "technico" and controls a tribal land
with the land of Somalia. Even those who should have shown our youth the
right path, have themselves gone with the winds of war and tribal conflicts.
Can these people show their youth anything other than hatred and tribal
warfare?
How do we bring our youth back to the normal track? One suggestion I have is
to educate them as only through education can these unfortunate youth see.
