Psalm 75 -- For mercies shown to the psalmist. This is a 2002 Devotional Reading from my sunday school book. How serious do we take our sunday school lessons? We need to pray. Verse 1 -- Duties to God, Thanksgiving, For Various Mercies UNTO thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do give thanks: for thy name is near thy wondrous works declare. Verses 2,3 -- Man Redeemed, Blessedness of The New Life, Assurance of the Divine Favour When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah. HOT Words -- Judge Uprightly Verses 4,5 -- External Nature, Horns, Symbolizing Pride & Power I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck. Verse 6 -- WORKS of God, God's Providence in Man's Temporal Affairs, Inclinces the Hearts of Men Toward His Servants For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. Verse 7 But "God" is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. "God" -- Psalm 50:6 And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah. "God" -- Psalm 58:11 So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth. Verse 8 -- The Outward Man, Drunkenness, Figurative (resemblance, typical, symbolic, moral or spiritual truth) For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all of the wicked of the earth shall wring them out, and drink them. Verse 9 -- Duties to God, PRAISE, Everlasting Due to God But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. Verse 10 -- WORKS of God, God's Providence in Moral Discipline, Contrasted Temporal Fortunes of the Righteous & Wicked All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
