Grieving is a natural process of life...learn how to ease the pain and continue to live your life...

Unlike any emotion, grieve can literally disconnect us from the world and submerge us into a deep state of depression. Some of the feelings that accompany grieve include:
Unhappiness, despair, confusion, feelings of resentment, guilt, anger, and feelings of loneliness.

Many times, no matter what the circumstances surrounding the loss of a beloved one were, we feel cheated; we feel the world and God--if we believe in Him--have stolen a precious being from our lives. Suddenly, we have no ambition to continue living our lives. We feel as if we could simply end our existence, if only it would release us from the anguish of our grieve.

How can we even begin to think of living? And, in the midst of our despair, how can we begin to heal from the pain of our loss?

Grieving is a natural process. It is perfectly normal to isolate ourselves for a period of time...whatever time is necessary for us to mourn the loss of a beloved one. Still, in order to begin our healing process, we must come to the humble realization that death is only a temporary separation... we will all experience the transition of death.

Death, on a spiritual level, is representative of the completion of a soul's purpose on the physical realm. Now, having fulfilled the grand purpose of having a human experience, the spirit, returns to the spiritual realm and is finally free of the illusions of the physical plane.

Yet, much as we attempt to remind ourselves that our beloved ones are now resting in a divine place, we still experience the immense loss of their physical presence. We yearn to hear their voices, to feel their touch, hear the laughter. It is during these painful moments that we must look at our surroundings and find comfort in the eternal prints our beloved ones have left behind.

Instead of refusing to look at their belongings, arm yourself with courage and search for that favorite shirt or jacket. Hold it closely to your heart and know that although you cannot see your beloved departed one, he/she is always with you in spirit-- still comforting you and guiding you as you move towards fulfilling your soul's purpose.

Was there a special meal that your
beloved enjoyed? Do not stop making this meal only because he/she is no longer physically present. Make that special meal and place another setting on table. Know in your heart that your beloved one is sitting with you in spirit; partaking in the delicious meal you have created in memory of them.

Perhaps, these suggestions are too painful to contemplate. But, in validating and honoring the spiritual presence of our departed loved ones in our lives, we are in essence expressing our eternal love for them and acknowledging their eternal love for us.

True healing begins when we are able to continue to live our lives in the physical realm, realizing that we are still here for a grand purpose. Our beloved departed ones desire nothing more than for us to continue fulfilling our divine path in life.

Remembering that as the seasons change, and as flowers bloom, only to wither and then, blossom again, so, too, will we--as spiritual beings, bloom into human beings, wither from the physical body and blossom into the spiritual beings that we have always Been...always are, and will always be.... in all-ways.

Blanca,

While this was an excellent write, many faiths do not believe that our deceased loved ones walk the earth in the form of a spiritual being, nor do they believe that we will be reunited with our loved ones in the afterlife on the same plane (i.e., as man and wife).

I agree with you that grief is a natural process, and one must experience this emotion, not avoid it.

To truly move beyond bereavment, one must experinece the final stage of grief - acceptance. Acceptance doesn't mean we forget all about our departed beloveds. One can still love, honor, and cherish a deceased spouse GUILT FREE while moving forward with life, perhaps even finding love again. To allow every thought be consumed by the presence of spiritual beings only leads to feelings of "guilt by betrayal" should the surviving spouse wish to start dating again or remarry. These "fits and starts" are the anitithesis of growth.

All in all, however, I thoroughly enjoyed your article, and look forward to more from you.
