This is definitely a tale for teens. Bella is all awkward and self-conscious--but beautiful, if the boy reactions are accurate. The writing is stupendous. I think I'll skip the rest of the series and go for Meyer's alien story, which is reputedly more fun and suspense of a slightly different sort.

    What I liked: lots of layers and twists, dynamic characters, stunningly crafted imagery. What I disliked: Bella's self-loathing and instant adoration of Edward's physical beauty. What mitigated my annoyance: Meyer's insertion that Edward, as a highly-evolved predator, had attractions that drew his prey. Good explanation!
