I have had reason to be a little excited since yesterday since I saw that my novel, THE TAILOR’S NEEDLE, has been ranked number 1 and my story-collection, MARRIAGES ARE MADE IN INDIA, number 2 on AuthorsDen.com. These are the few excitements that authors like me have in their otherwise nondescript lives. Our excitements come when the urge to write comes and they recur when readers get excited about our writings. But these two events are often separated by long gaps.

One who chooses to be an author has made a choice where there can be long phases of melancholic experience for that is what leads to ithe urge to write. The light is contained within the darkness and suddenly finds an opening to emanate from. Put in another way, life chooses an author and gives him that suffering which is essential to generate his vision and find his voice.

Authors should not shun suffering as others normally do. It may sound a bizarre idea but suffering is the other side of pleasure; the two sides are intricately related and the true author should be able to see this. The two sides are like sisters one quickly following the other.

In moments of suffering an author should drown himself in his writing as that is an opportunity divinely sent. Suffering is like a bus that must never be missed for it leads towards joys that creativity must be accompanied with.
