Forced to deal with death of a beloved relative and the ensuing depression and anxiety that followed has resulted in the publishing of a book by a McClure woman that is sure to touch the hearts of those who read it.
"Tears for Grandma" is the name of the book and Linda Campbell of Dormantown Road,McClure is the author, who says she wrote the memoir as a way to reach those who are suffering or have suffered from grief like she did when her beloved grandmother died when Campbell was only 12 years old.
According to a self-interview submitted to the County Observer, Campbell talks about my first experience with death when I was 12 years old. My paternal grandmother, Sallie Irene (Merrill) Bishop, had been diagnosed with cancer and came to live with my family since there was nowhere else for her to go. She succumbed to her illness nine months later, and I was forced to deal with my grief that eventually turned into clinical depression. I was devastated.
Campbell said she believes the book will have a much wider audience, as she stated, "Everyone can find themselves somewhere in this book," she said. "The grieving child, the harassing peer, the cruel relative, the compassionate friend, the insensitive teacher, the kind school nurse, etc....."
One of the most difficult aspects in writing the book, Campbell said, was because of the amount of time that has passed since her ordeal began.
"It was very difficult to write this book because I had to go back in time thirty plus years and rediscover my emotions during that period of my life," she says in her interview. "I must admist that there were many tears during writing, and I was reluctant to have people read such personal issues about myself. It's hard to literally make your life an open book, but since its release, I have experienced a sense of freedom.
A book review written by Rusty Fischer, author of "The Empress of Popcorn," states: "The symbolism of summer's poignant end is a magical way to show the transformation from a carefree young girl of 11 to a troubled high school student battling both academic rigors and the drama of a dysfunctional home. Just like life, "Campell's memoir is full of bittersweet moments that take us back in time."
