Children can be brutally honest but that is what makes them so very special

He sits in all his innocence, staring at me with much thought.

Looking through the rear view mirror, I can see my grandson looking at me, as if he is trying to figure out something.

"What is on your mind pumpkin?" I ask.

He grins, but puts his head down shyly, as if he is afraid to speak his mind. He is not one to hold back. I cannot imagine what he is thinking.

"You know you can tell me anything, I am your Grammy and I love you so much." I explain.

He has been my heart since the day he was born. Attached at the hip we are. I love spending time with my little grandson. He is six and full of wonder. You never know what may come out of his mouth when he decides to speak.

"What is going on in that little head of yours this early morning?" I curiously continue to probe.

My thoughts begin to worry, wondering if something is bothering him on a deeper level. Has someone mistreated him, is he feeling bad, has he lost a friend, my mind is boggled with speculations.

All of a sudden, he stutters, attempting to find the words. "It's your hair Grammy!"

That is it, I think to myself. He is just noticing my hair. I have not colored it in months and it is now sporting silver! I call it silver as it sounds so much better than gray.

"Oh you noticed Grammy's hair! Do you like it?" I ask.

He looks at me once more, but this time with courage and determination.

"No, I do not like your gray hair!" he says smartly. "I want it the other color."

Thinking to myself, what color was that? I have changed colors so many times that I cannot remember where I left off.

I look through the rear view mirror and smile. "Well sweetie, this is not gray it is silver like your pretty crayon and I will be wearing it this way for a very long time."

Smiling, my grandson looks at me and says, "I like my silver crayon, just not on your head!"
