Here's an article that will lay dormant most of the year. However, if it's anywhere near summer as you read this then this article will help you make it a more creative, wonderful season. So read it!
"Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer…" Nat King Cole used to sing out this cheery tune over my radio when I was a kid. In fact, there were many wonderful songs that stood for summer. "The Endless Summer", "summertime, summertime, summertime", "Beach Baby", and of course the classic from Porgy & Bess titled simply enough "Summertime".
Remember the lyrics to that last one?
"It's summertime and the livin' is easy.
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high…so,
hush little baby and don't you cry…cause
You're Daddy's rich and your Mommas good looking…"
The soulful sweet season we love is here. We plan for a vacation, we slap on the tanning oil and rush to the beach or lake and just loll around through the months from late June to early September.
It's a magical time of year when we want to lay down our massive responsibilities, if only for a short time, to soak up the warmth the summer sun drapes us in.
"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world."
---John Muir
Have you ever laid down in a field on bright sunlit day and watched the billowing white clouds fluff by your eyes against the deep blue of a mid-day sky? Reaching over you lazily pull at a blade of grass for no particular reason, except that its there, saying silently:
"Tug me, pull my luscious green between your forefinger and stout thumb. Yank me, unplug me from Mother Earth and realize your tugging on all of nature. Tugging on the entire world."
This reverie is so important to refreshing our creative abilities but summer can be a very useful time for CREATORS, as well.
Here are nine (9) tips on how to 'juice' your creativity during this wonderful season:
