An important task is placed before us---whether it is possible to stop our incessant talk in favor of 'hearing' our heart and creative soul.
One task before me and approved by my Secret Creator Within concerns
listening to what I say.
One of the features which distinguishes man from animal is his speech. It
is a gift. But like all gifts we take it for granted. We don't value it
enough.
Too often we cannot be said to speak; instead, we talk, we chatter, we, as
is said, suffer diarrhea of the mouth. This is because speech, which should help us toward development, a means toward more consciousness, has become almost the MOST mechanical thing about us.
We speak immidiately, without any hesitation. We react, and react until we
no longer can see ourselves clearly or develop a cogent sentence.
If it were only idle chatter it wouldn't, perhaps, be so bad. But we
gossip, we tattle, we tell tales, we lie, we complain, we scold, backbite
and make all manner of negative remark.
The terrible thing about this is that we never HEAR ourselves speak. It would probably be unbearable if we could do this for, say, 24 hours.
Today it would be good if we tried an experiment of listening to what we
say.
The Secret Creator Within told me:
"If you would try this, then many things would be revealed. Why not start
by just cutting down on the amount of chatter and the volume, by one-half.
This will cause some friction in yourself and I will help you remember
several important things!"
Oh, that we could consiously hear ourselves talk! To do so without the
impulse to interfere, to change, to improve while noticing the impulse to
try and do all of these things.
But will we,--- can we? Of course not!
If we make our whole effort to LISTEN, the continuous stream of senseless talk would exhaust us,--- in the shape we are in now. So, it will go away and come back. But my intention is that it should be a real effort, and thus a sacrifice to my Secret Creator Within from which His voice can finally begin to be heard.

What is it in me that demands such great justification? That bellows and cajoles and gossips with great glee?
Today, I can hear myself be important and domineering. I can hear myself
scream for validation and acceptance. But yesterday, when I wasn't listening I heard none of this. Then I was as solidly sure of everything around me as could be, which allowed my life to run on auto-pilot.
I just talked, and talked and never once listened to my talk. I dreamed
through the entire day, meeting other dreamers that would also talk and talk and never listen. Together, we formed a bond of ignorance and shame which delighted us to no end.
We discussed so and so, and his paltry attempts, or how this other one was
obviously mistaken. We took our complaints out for a walk, our prejudices and pride for a swim.
Today, I only remember the TONE of these 'talks', never the substance.
Because there was no substance! They were vapors that drifted up from dreams by dreamers locked in a tug-of-war over who knew the most and could talk the quickest, the longest.
Oh, how we both reveled in our impeachments and the heady draft of
meanness and disdain. How delighted we were at our foolishness and great humor. So witty and urbane---two greater personalities would be impossible to find!
No listening allowed!
We couldn't have SHUT UP if our lives had depended on it. Forget about
shutting up, we couldn't have PAUSED anywhere near long enough to actually
hear what we were saying. Why bother? We needed no guideance from above or within. We held the puny world and all its players captive in our hands, ready to administer our special justice and concise opinion over them.
CREATORS let us listen today.
Let us cut our talk in half at the knees. Let us not try and CHANGE our
talk (that would have to come much later, when we are strong and awake) but let us notice how we desire to change it, how we long for real conversation. Let us hear our negative emotions come tumbling out of our mouths without changing it. In this way we can BEGIN to change it.

This great gift of speech is so wonderful. It allows our being to express itself. We can use it to touch, heal and uplift. We can softly present our condolences and kindnesses and love through it.
We can employ it, and not be employed by it.

Secret Creator Within spoke and I LISTENED:
"I once told everyone that if they could but say to that mountain,---
arise!--- be ye cast into the sea! That it would be so. This is not figurative but literal. But, the power of your word is impossibly far from that now.You hardly have any power. For, in your condition, if you could move a mountain you would destroy everything. You must start by simply saying what you mean, what comes from your heart, once each day. Each lie you cast away from your speech will open your tongue for My words to come through. Try it!"
And so I shall!
