From the Iowa City Press Citizen on the first anniversary of 9/11
As a writer for the Iowa City Press Citizen back then, I was asked to submit a piece on the first anniversary of 9/11. A part time writer for the paper, my full time job was flying a helicopter for the University of Iowa Hospital. It's something that I hadn't thought of because of my focus on the twin towers and the loss of people and financial activity that went on there, most of Manhattan paralyzed in reaction, and people stranded all over, like in Newfoundland when their planes were grounded.
But the loss of life from the loss of Medevac must've been considerable, and the loss of commerce due to planes not doing their daily business must of been immense.
