As a South African I was drawn to this book because of the subject matter,
Its a fictional story based on fact, and deals with the unjust resettlement of the SAN bushman from the Kalahari.
The writing style is truly evocative of Africa and you can literally smell the bush with each and every page turn.
Its an exciting storyline keeping you guessing along each subplot,
I found myself back in Africa experiencing the majestic sunsets, the warmth of the people and the smell of parched earth at the beginning of a rainstorm.
Highly recommended.

This book written with passion is well worth a read. It describes the life and sadness of the Bushman as they are driven out of their traditional lands. The story leads the reader through exciting adventures as the main characters come in conflict with each other. Descriptions of fauna and flora are excellent and the plot exceptional. It is a 'Must Read'.

A gripping story of Africa, its tragedy and its glory. Conflict and action is brought to life, clearly by the author's personal experiences. It is well researched and the author shows a familiarity of the scene and especially of the San bushmen who are the true "owners" of Africa. Their continued torment and isolation caused by the greed and avarice of politicians is clearly shown, together with their amazing bush craft. A compelling read with a fast pace. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Dare to Flee by Phil Graham is a good book. I have just read this and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It tells the story of bushmen in the Kalahari desert and their struggle to continue living the life they have lived for over 20000 years. After diamonds are discovered in the desert the bushmen are forcibly moved to resettlement areas that are totally alien to everything they have known. Consequently they suffer great hardships all in the name of progress.
This seemingly is happening even now or has actually happened already. Little snippets throughout the story tell a lot about these people and their way of life. This is all woven into the story of Xai a bushman who has reason to go after someone who causes great harm to his 'family'. It tells of the people he meets along the way who help him reach his goal.
As I said I thoroughly enjoyed Dare to Flee and it certainly made me stop and think about the injustices done to these people that the world never gets to hear about. I found this book hard to put down as I wanted to find out what happens next to Xai and his quest. It's a great book and one that is well worth reading.

As a South African, having visited the Kalahari only recently, I found this book thoroughly enlightening. The author cleverly incorporates the history of the Kalahari and his knowledge of the San people into a captivating novel of sex, murder, action and intrigue. A real page-turner, Dare to Flee, opens a window into the bushman culture that very few have had the privilege of experiencing. I look forward to the sequel!
