Most people do not make the distinct correlation between their choices and experiences. In actuality, you choose what you experience and experience what you choose.
Life is the sum of all your choices. ~Albert Camus, French writer and philosopher
Experience is not what happens to you. It is what you do with what happens to you. ~Aldous Huxley, English writer
Whenever you've been mad at someone, did you think they were responsible for your anger? What about when others have said or done something to you and then you experienced happiness? Have you resented someone when they've harmed you or pleased when offered kindness? Do you believe that everything you feel, think, say, and or do is a result of what happens to you? If so, think again my friend because that's not the way it works within the mechanics of social Truth...and you don't exist apart from Truth.
Most people have the flawed perception that "experience" is derived from something outside of the self. Now, let's be clear on nomenclature here. Something can certainly "happen" to you and it does every moment. However, what "happens" and what you "experience" are entirely different things. The former is a cause and the latter is an effect. What you encounter may or may not be created by you whereas what you experience from this encounter is completely created by you. For instance, people may say and do things to you. It rains or the sun shines. You lose your job or win the lottery. You discover you have cancer or find out you will become a parent. You read a magazine article or watch a movie. All of these examples are the encounter or "occurrence". How you feel, think, say, and or do in response to the occurrence is what you actually experience in the form of created choice. Although you can't necessarily control what you encounter, you always control how you respond. This aspect of your creative ability is part of the mechanics governed by Truth. It is non-negotiable and moreover...you cannot refuse to participate is doing so! In other words, you cannot not choose. Think about this for just a moment. Even when you choose not to create a choice, you have just created one. Look at it from this perspective: everything you can possibly encounter is simply an opportunity for you to create a choice and Truth states that you don't have the ability to not respond. That, my friend, is not an option. You must choose because there is nothing else available for you to do! Your entire life can be summed up as a continuous string of choice responses to various forms of stimuli. Therefore, everything you choose to feel, think, say, do and experience is utterly and completely your responsibility. Although you can't control how someone treats you or when you encounter a occurrence outside the realm of choice from others (such as a natural event)...you are the one who chooses how you wish to feel, think, say, and or do in the form of a response. When you do respond with any of these creative tools, you will create what you experience. So, you must come to understand that you choose what you experience and you experience what you choose. Stop holding others responsible for your happiness or sadness. Stop placing the responsibility for your experiences on anything outside of yourself. Simply acknowledge that the choices of others and natural events are only opportunities for you to create what you will ultimately experience as a response to them. Furthermore, it would be in your best interest to accept this responsibility since Truth dictates how choice and experience function within human social mechanics. Remember, you don't operate outside of Truth. There is no other option available for you. Of course, you can choose not to accept this since Free Will offers you the ability to choose whatever you wish. You can deny Truth as often as you want to do so. There are no restrictions on what you choose but there are consequences. This cause and effect relationship is part of the mechanics governed by Truth and make no mistake...they are unavoidable. Refusing to acknowledge your participation in what you choose and experience is certainly an option, yet you must examine how this non-acceptance will affect you. What will it produce for you? The Nexus Complex presents it will only bring about personal suffering, harm, and unhappiness. Only you create your choices and experiences. You have been doing this all your life (and will continue to do so) whether you realize it or not and it would be in your best interest to start taking responsibility for them as soon as possible. Your happiness depends on it. It's also important to understand that your choices are either reactive or conscious. What this means is that when you respond to an occurrence, you can react without thinking about the consequences or you can consciously create a choice intended to produce a beneficial or non-beneficial experience for you and others. There are no other ways for you to create a choice or experience. Reactive choice is haphazard and harmful to you and others while conscious choice increases the potential for consistent experiences of happiness (if that is your intention). As you create choices, keep these five points from the book in mind:
- You alone have control of your choices
- You cannot not choose
- You have two motivators of choice: Love or Fear
- Love is beneficial and Fear is harmful
- Your choices create your experiences
In closing, here is are the definitions of Choice and Experience and two short excepts from The Nexus Complex: A Personal Guide to Truth that might help you to further understand the relationship between Choice and Experience:
"Choice - An act or instance of selecting. In the context of The Nexus Complex: the reactive or conscious selection of actualized feelings, thoughts, words, and actions that creates an experience."
"Experience - The awareness of an object, thought, or emotion through the senses or mind. In the context of The Nexus Complex: acknowledged involvement created through the senses, mind, or spirit in response to an actual or perceived feeling, thought, word, action, or event that is self-induced or externally encountered."
"Choice is the powerful tool you possess to create any feeling, thought, word, action, or experience you can potentially conceive...in every moment and in any circumstance. Your unchallenged capability to actualize this creative power with no interference from any external influences is called Free Will. Each is connected with the other and although both Choice and Free Will offer you an extraordinary power unavailable to any other species on this planet, they come with a high price: consequence and responsibility. Because it is outside the realm of possibility for you not create a choice, you cannot escape engaging the mechanisms that drive Choice, Experience, Love, and Fear. While you certainly have a magnificent capability to create, wielding it in a haphazard manner will not be in your best interest. Truth dictates you will experience what you choose! There is no relief from the relentless apparatus of cause and effect. Thus, pay close attention to the choices you create. They have the power to both enlighten and destroy." From Section Two: Chapter Eighteen (Choice and Free Will: Unlimited Creativity)
"Probably the most difficult aspect of Experience for people to grasp is that they choose it. Most people do not precisely correlate their choices with their experiences and frequently place the responsibility of their experiences on other people or natural events they encounter. This is a harmful and inaccurate perception. One question someone may ask when trying to comprehend Experience is, "If I'm cold, then how am I choosing this experience?" In this case, you are not actually creating a choice to be cold but instead, you are "acknowledging an involvement through the senses" induced by your body responding to temperature. However, you can choose to experience not being cold when exposed to low temperatures. For instance, mind over matter techniques have been documented in various scientific tests including those showing Tibetan monks sleeping at altitudes of fifteen-thousand feet in zero-degree temperatures while demonstrating no symptoms of shivering or discomfort. Furthermore, documented evidence exists showing these monks increasing body temperatures in their fingers and toes by up to seventeen degrees and slowing their metabolism by sixty-four percent. Shaolin and Buddhist monks have also been observed to sustain no physical trauma or pain from devastating circumstances that would maim or kill untrained participants. Although this is very interesting data supporting the power of creative choice, it is not the point being presented in the context of The Nexus Complex. This book presents various data concerning how and why we create choices founded in either Love or Fear, which produce beneficial and non-beneficial experiences." From Section Two: Chapter Nineteen (Experience: The Result of Choice)
