Section Two: Peripheral Concepts & Techniques

Chapter Eleven
Control Base: Ownership of Personal Choice

Control Base is an aspect of Truth that concerns the mechanics of how and why each individual is responsible for their choices and experiences. Control Base can be confused with Sapient Creation and though these two aspects of Truth are related, they each have different implications. Sapient Creation states all sapient beings are creative in nature and utilize this innate capability through creating choices and experiences. Control Base states that even though all sapient beings have the same capability of creative choice, it is distinctive in that each individual has absolute control of their own choice creations but has no control whatsoever over the choices of others. To clarify this aspect of Truth, consider this brief definition of Control Base.

"The Nexus Complex Concept that the only exclusive control an individual sapient being possesses is the choice to create their feelings, thoughts, words, actions, and experiences independent of any external influences."

Although you will encounter an immense amount of data each day of your life, try to see each situation as an opportunity for you to create a choice that projects Who You Are. No one or nothing else but you can produce the choice of how and why you wish to feel, think, say, or do about anything you encounter. Moreover, as you introduce these four types of choices you are also creating what you choose to experience. Each of your feelings, thoughts, words, and actions are experiences in themselves and when combined...produce wider scopes of experience. Keep in mind, all other human beings are doing the same thing. We each have independent and absolute control over our own choices but no one has any control whatsoever over the choice creations of other human beings. This is an important point to understand since it is common for people to perceive they can control the choices of others. This misinterpretation causes a great deal of suffering within human relationships. Control Base states the responsibility for a choice (and any personal experiences of that choice) is attached to the person who created it.
Unfortunately, Generational Ignorance has not allowed most people to understand the actuality of Truth and therefore, many of its aspects including Control Base. As a result, the majority of humanity possesses the inaccurate perception that others and external events are responsible for what we experience. Human beings have developed a debilitating habit of blaming everyone and everything but themselves for what they experience. For instance, many people often think events or other people cause them to be happy or sad. At some point in your life, you might have felt, thought, or said that an individual or event "made you happy" or "made you mad." Control Base states no person can "make" (force) you choose or experience anything. They only have the ability to create their own choices and then present them to you in the form of a word or an action (or non-word/action). In actuality, you choose to respond by creating a feeling, thought, word, and/or action to what they may present to you and thus, you will experience your created choice responses. You both are creating choices in this way yet neither of you has any control at all over what, why, when, where, or how the other chooses to create. Thus, even if you want to, you cannot attach the responsibility of what you choose to anyone (or anything) else nor can you enforce any control over the choices others choose to create. You might want to read that last sentence again...because it is one of the most significant aspects of Truth you will ever encounter.
Creative choice is unique to each individual although it is also interactive within all human relationships. In addition, you might be presented with occurrences that are not within the parameters of a relationship with another person (such as a natural event) but you are still the one who chooses what you feel, think, say, or do in relation to that event...as a response. Because Truth is scalable, the premise of Control Base also applies to groups and all of humanity in general. On these larger scales, the combined individual choices or those of the group leaders will create choices with no control over external sources. This can be observed in the choice creations of families, communities, cultures, businesses, societies, religions, governments, etc.
Let's look at the word "control" for just a moment. Throughout history, people's attempts to control the choices of others have caused considerable harm. This has been a result of our Ignorance of Actual Truth. As a result, other people will often try to control the choices you create (and you may do this as well). They may attempt to use various methods to manipulate what you choose. These can take on a variety of forms of including pampering, seduction, coddling, non-acceptance, deceit, intimidation, sex, pleading, jealousy, coercion, threats, bribery, deception, blackmail, and violence. Regardless of these or any other forms of exerting control, you must understand that these are no more than presentations of people's choice creations attempting to control yours...primarily for their benefit (not necessarily yours). In actuality, they are simply potential influences since no control truly exists. This "attempt to control" can be either conscious or unconscious though in any case, it is frequently harmful to human relationships. Whenever people try to exert control, it often results in two common outcomes:

• The individual whose choice is attempting to be controlled becomes angry or resentful toward those trying to exert the control.
• The person attempting to exert the control becomes angry or resentful toward the other person when the outcome is not what they intended.

Again, though influencing the choices of others can be attempted, no actual control exists. As a matter of comparison, an ASB would never attempt to force you to make any choice for the following two reasons:

• They know very well they have no control whatsoever over your choice creations.
• Attempting to do so only increases the potential for Fear to manifest within you and them.

This does not mean they would not advise you to create a beneficial choice or to refrain from creating one that is harmful. They would do this if they saw your choice could result in harm to you, them, others, or the environment. Although they would advise you, they would still allow you to create whatever choice you desired. However, they have the same creative ability as you and therefore, they might create their own choices to restrict, minimize, or eliminate any potential harm you might cause to yourself, others, or them. The point is to understand that although others may choose any number of things that attempt to exert control over your choices; in actuality, they have none. This is crucial for you to comprehend so you can begin to take responsibility for your choice creations while at the same time being immune to the effects of choices created by others. Keep in mind, this does not imply you should refuse to consider the suggestions or advice of other people (though you can certainly do so). It means you must acknowledge that in the final analysis, you have the exclusive power and responsibility to create your choices and experiences.
Let's look at an example of Control Base. If someone says or does something in an attempt to cause you harm while the two of you are having an argument, do you possess any control over their words or actions? Can you force them to say or do something in a way that restricts their ability to do otherwise? Obviously not, since you have no such control. Therefore, they have created a choice of words or actions and presented them to you. Now, since you have no control over what they have presented to you, do you think they have any capability to control how you choose to respond? Truth dictates they do not, since both of you are the same type of being with the same ability to create personal choice with no ability to control the choices of others. What you choose will be created by you and the same thing is applicable to everyone else. Therefore, if you choose anger, your feelings, thoughts, words, and/or actions will reflect your anger. Anger is a manifestation of Fear but don't you also have the innate capability to respond from a motivation of Love? Does the other person possess any control at all over how or why you choose to respond? No. Both of you are creating choices independently. Can a person influence the choices of others? Absolutely. Can they actually control the choices of others? Absolutely not. There is a significant difference between influence and control.

It is always your next move. ~Napoleon Hill, American writer

You can always choose whatever you desire but you cannot escape the experience of your choices thus, an important question to consider is: "Whenever I create a choice, will it produce benefit or harm?" The Nexus Complex recommends this question be the foundation of every choice you create since answering it appropriately increases the potential you will choose and experience happiness. Answering it inappropriately (or not at all) will simply increase the potential you will create choices that produce non-beneficial outcomes and as a result, limit your potential to experience happiness. As always, the following should be the focus of your existence: What do I want to experience?
Remember, Truth advises Love will always in your best interest and Fear will never be in your best interest. This is relevant to Control Base since you are the one with the unique power to choose whether you will experience either Love or Fear. In addition, Control Base plays a crucial role in the frequency you experience these choice motivators. Understanding this aspect of Truth will play an important part in your success at choosing Love in the face of life's difficulties. Let's continue with the assumption you agree with the following:

1. You want to experience happiness
2. Love is beneficial and Fear is harmful
3. Sapient Creation
4. Control Base

1. Ask yourself these questions: "If I want to experience happiness, do I want it occasionally in my life or as much as possible?" "If I control my happiness, do I want it no matter what I encounter?" Your answers will establish how often you desire to experience happiness and if you want it regardless of what you encounter. This establishes what you want.

2. If you agree Love will always benefit you and Fear will always cause you harm, then you can agree creating choices motivated by Love will produce personal happiness and those sponsored by Fear won't. This establishes Love is in your best interest to experience happiness.

3. If you agree with the concept of Sapient Creation, then you have also acknowledged you are a creative being with the ability to choose any experience you wish. Since you want to experience happiness, you must agree you can choose it whenever you desire. This establishes you can choose Love to produce the experience of happiness.

4. If you agree with the concept of Control Base, then you accept you control what you choose to create and have no control over what may be presented by others or natural events. Therefore, you accept the responsibility for what, when, where, how, and why you create all of your choices. This establishes you are the only one who can choose to experience happiness for yourself.

Keeping these four things in mind, whenever you are presented with an event you may have previously perceived as "bad," your Knowledge of Truth will empower you to be aware of the following:

• You cannot control what is presented to you.
• You can control how you choose to respond.
• You want to experience happiness.
• Love equates to happiness.
• You can create the experience of happiness through Love.

By processing all of this combined data, it should become clear that regardless of what is presented to you, choosing Love will achieve your desire to experience happiness rather than choosing Fear. While it's much easier to choose Love when it is presented to you, choosing Love when Fear is presented will increase the frequency you will experience happiness. It is a matter of deciding what you want to experience and then choosing to create it regardless of what you encounter. While Sapient Creation states you are creating it, Control Base says you are the only one creating it. You might argue that the choices of others cause you to feel, think, say, and/or do something. This is simply not possible according to Control Base. What is actually occurring is the choices of others are presented to you as potential influence. However, you will be choosing to create what you experience as a response. You are responsible for all of your choices and experiences. You have been doing this your entire life and always will be! Is it more beneficial for you to enact conscious and intentioned control over your choices or surrender them to the influence of others or events? It will do you well to think about this question carefully.

A man is happy so long as he chooses to be happy. ~Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Russian writer

Let's examine another powerful feature of Control Base that is even more profound. Understanding and verifying the following statement will empower you further than you can imagine. Unawareness of it will continue to relegate you to the harmful and destructive outcomes of Fear. Once you begin to comprehend the significant implications of Control Base, you will realize another amazing ability you may never knew you possessed.

You cannot be harmed.

This can be difficult to believe at first but in essence, it is supported by Truth, which says, "Regardless of being presented with Fear, you have the power to choose not to experience it." If you can accept you are a creative sapient being who has utter control of what you experience while acknowledging that Love is beneficial and Fear is harmful, then why would it be hard to choose Love when Fear is presented to you? If you know that creating a choice motivated by Love will benefit you and creating a choice based in Fear will harm you, why would you choose Fear? There would be no self-benefit in doing this if you had verified it increases the potential you would be harmed in some form or another. This would not serve your stated purpose of Who You Want To Be. At the point you have verified Actual Truth, you will not choose to create a choice motivated by Fear and therefore, when you're presented with Fear...you will be empowered to discard it. It will no longer affect you as it did before. You will realize you have power over Fear whereas in your ignorance of Truth, Fear held power over you. Therefore, when other people are discourteous, ill-tempered, disrespectful, hurtful, or malicious...you will not be harmed by their presentations. Instead, you will know that choosing to create choices responding in Fear will only cause you to experience the detrimental effects of Fear. Since you will be aware this is not in your best interest to experience happiness...you will refuse to create these types of choices. The same principle applies when you might be presented with the potentiality of Fear from events not associated with the choice creations of others, such as the weather causing you to be late for an important business meeting or lightning striking your home and causing a fire. The possibility to choose Fear can surely be present in these situations yet doing so would ultimately produce a self-induced increase in your suffering.
It would be in your best interest to understand you cannot be harmed by Fear...unless you choose to allow it. Regardless of what is presented, you create your experiences. If you choose to be harmed by Fear, you will be. If you choose not to be harmed by Fear, you will not. Now, what about a physical injury (which could never be perceived as harm)? Even if this occurred, Control Base would remain valid since you would still be responsible for creating all your choices of feelings, thoughts, words, and actions as responses. You are never immune to the social mechanics of Truth, which require you to create a choice. Neither are you safe from the responsibility of creating one. You do not and cannot operate outside of these mechanics. Your entire lifetime is a connected series of choices and experiences. In the final analysis, each of these (and in Truth, your entire life) can be described in one of two ways: producing benefit (Love) or non-benefit (Fear). This view may appear bleak at first glance but it isn't because the diversity of your choices (and experiences) of Love or Fear are limitless!
Try looking at Control Base from this perspective. Imagine you have an invisible bubble surrounding you. When external occurrences are presented to you (choices of others or natural events), they stop at your bubble. They cannot get inside the bubble...inside you...and force you to choose in any way. You are totally separated from any outside occurrences by this "shield" and no matter how hard others may try to influence your choice...they can never traverse this barrier and create a choice for you. The social mechanics set forth by Actual Truth will not allow this to occur. Thus, these "influences" are just occurrences being presented to you outside this bubble and you have the choice to respond to them in any way you wish. Actually, these external events are no more than opportunities for you to create a choice in response. Keep in mind, every other person has his or her own bubble too...and you cannot get in. Therefore, stop trying. Allow others to create their own choices and experiences. Refrain from choosing to become angry or judgmental. If you desire to express Love to others, advise them but do not attempt to control them. Attempting to exert control over their choices is an exercise in futility and will increase the potential for Fear while decreasing the possibility either of you will choose Love.
In closing, it should be stated that some people might try to argue the validity of Control Base by pointing out circumstances such as torture, chemical dependency, sleep deprivation, mental illness or incapacity, extreme duress, etc. While personal control of one's choices might be truly compromised, The Nexus Complex is not including these types of circumstances when presenting this aspect of Truth. Control Base is illustrating the mechanisms of Choice for sane humans, in common relationships, under normal circumstances. To avoid any possibility of confusion in understanding its premise, The Nexus Complex does not include altered mental faculties or states of mind (artificial or natural). However, The Nexus Complex still maintains that Truth is Truth and therefore, even though abnormal conditions can influence a person's choices, they still create them. Yet, certain instances may not allow a choice to be created (e.g. a person in a vegetative mental state). There may also be situations where an individual has severely limited mental faculties, which do not allow them to be cognizant of creating a choice but The Nexus Complex is not concerned with arguing these instances because they are not relevant to the overwhelming majority of human beings. Regardless, the credibility of Control Base can still be observed throughout history in abnormal situations such as with prisoners of war who, under extreme duress, consciously chose to protect sensitive information...even to their death. Another example would be the early followers of Jesus Christ who refused to recant their belief that He was The Messiah, despite threats of torture and execution. Even in these cases, the capability to create a choice was not controlled due to these extraordinary external influences. Thus, the premise of Control Base remains valid.
You alone create the ultimate finality of all your choices and experiences. The ability to control what you choose and experience is a powerfully creative tool yet, most people are unaware of its mechanics, significance, and its existence. What is more alarming is they will often attach the responsibility of what they experience...to external sources other than to themselves. Choice is the singular tool all human beings possess to create Who They Are and Who They Want To Be. It is all we have to create our lives because there is nothing else in which we can participate. Once this aspect of Truth is verified, you can begin to take command of your life by creating conscious and intentioned choices to produce happiness no matter what you encounter. You will know that although other people may attempt to harm you, you are the one who decides whether you will be harmed or not. They have no choice in the matter of determining the outcomes of what you ultimately experience. It is all about you!

Your life is the sum result of all the choices you make, both consciously and unconsciously. If you can control the process of choosing, you can take control of all aspects of your life. You can find the freedom that comes from being in charge of yourself. ~Robert. F. Bennett, American lobbyist and politician

Professional Reviews

Great Book
In my opinion, this book is a must read. The author has taken the complex subject of Truth and broken it down in a way that the reader can understand how to use it in their life. I also agree with him that most humans don't understand they create every feeling, thought, word, action, and experience they have. We are all good at blaming others for many things in our lives yet in the end, each of us choose what we experience. Among other profound concepts, The Nexus Complex does a great job of pointing this out in order to help us reconfigure our lives.

The Search for Truth
As a best selling author, I appreciate the effort it takes to tackle such a large subject and do so with the diligence that Greg has put forth in this work. It's a subject that no amount of "Data Gathering" and "Data processing" is enough. I believe that a study of this work will be entirely useful to anyone of any faith (or non-faith for that matter) and gets the reader considering things that many never bother with. Highly recommended!

Advanced Sapience... Powerful!
The Nexus Complex has something valuable to share with everyone, regardless of their beliefs, or lack thereof. A scientific pursuit of Actual Truth and what it says to us as we draw near. The material is insightful, objective, thought-provoking and powerful. For many readers, the journey will be "life-changing". Removing the shackles of ignorance to "know" what "is" and "is not" in their best interest. Very probably for the very first time. They will reconfigure their thoughts, improve relationships, and realize abundant living through advancing levels of sapience like never before. Well done Greg.
