Astrological Commentary On The 2016 Election
Here are a few of the many adjectives that could define the current election cycle of 2016, for starters let’s consider: unique, divided, extreme, and anti-establishment as some descriptors. As of today, February 20, 2016, the Democratic field has narrowed to two, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders; the Republican field is at six. Given we are hours away from the South Carolina and Nevada primary results, it’s possible that the numbers will change even more. The candidates have prepared, repaired, and tried to also spare themselves the potential indignities of running in a national campaign…some have done better than others! As I pondered about the strengths of these eight candidates, I thought about what their innate talents might be, and how that would help them reach their goals at this critical time. As an astrologer, it is natural for me to view natal talent, strengths, and natural ways of being in everyone that I work with, why not the candidates?
There are many approaches that I could possibly have taken to create such a table, but I decided to work with their Soli-Lunar (Sun-Moon) combinations and their Soli-Lunar elements. The elements are: Fire = passion; Air = communication; Earth = groundedness; and Water = flow; the Soli-Lunar combinations describe the combined energies of their Sun (Ego) and Moon (Emotional/Instinctual) signs. Given that I did not have a *Rodden AA rating for all the candidates charts’, I chose to work with the signs/elements of the Sun and the Moon and not houses, angles, or aspects. Lois Rodden was an astrologer who developed a system to rank a chart for its integrity of data; an AA rating denotes that a chart was created with the evidence of a birth certificate, thus the strongest proof of its exactness. In researching for the Sun and Moon signs, they can be ascertained by creating a chart for the noon hour; thus all the charts will have internal consistency.
As you read the information that I will be sharing, you may find that many of the descriptions ring true . Certainly this is not nearly in depth as it could be, but I believe there is value in having a basic appreciation for the uniqueness of each of the candidates. There are strengths in all of them!
Hillary Clinton was born on October 26, 1947. Her Sun is in Scorpio, and her Moon is in Pisces. She has a Water/Water Combination, which gives her capacity for flow and feeling. Her Soli-Lunar combination supports her capacity for: willpower, intensity, decisiveness, and the ability to stay the course, while having visionary, compassion. Bernie Sanders was born on September 8, 1941. He has the elements of Earth/Fire, which give him a grounded yet fiery passion. Bernie’s Soli-Lunar combination is Virgo/Aries, the analytical perfectionist who works and serves in a fiery, pioneering, heroic way.
Jeb Bush was born February 11, 1953. His Soli-Lunar combination is in Aquarius/Capricorn, and his elements are Air/Earth. The elements support communication that is grounded and serious, and his Soli-Lunar signs speak to a fair-minded, humanitarian who is a dependable, tolerant, individualist with strategic, executive capacity. Dr. Ben Carson was born September 18, 1951, his Soli-Lunar signs are in Virgo/Taurus, which means he has a double Earth for his elements. His elemental signs speak to his endurance and persistence, and his Soli-Lunar signs to his being an analytical healer, and perfectionist who is hard working, solid, conservative, and determined.
Ted Cruz was born December 22, 1970, making his Soli-Lunar combination Capricorn/Libra. He has an Earth/Air elemental combination, which speaks to a persistent and determined communication. His Capricorn/Libra combination offers him a statesman-like, executive, elder demeanor who counsels with artistry/flair. John Kasich was born on May 13, 1952, which gives him a Taurus/Capricorn Soli-Lunar combination, and double Earth for elements. He is elementally persistent and has endurance, and his Taurus/Capricorn combination speaks to a determined, hard working, conservative who has authority and executive ability
The last two candidates, Marco Rubio and Donald Trump have their birthdays as follows: Rubio was born on May 28, 1971; he is a Gemini/Cancer combination and that gives him the elements of Air Water, communication that flows. His Gemini/Cancer speaks to his being a versatile communicator and storyteller who is nurturing, protective, and caring. Donald Trump’s birthday was June 14, 1946, which gives him a Gemini/Sagittarius combination. His elements are Air/Fire, a communication that is fiery and passionate. His Gemini/Sagittarius speaks to a versatile, curious, multi-tasker, who is a freedom loving, bon vivant, and seeker.
In summary, there is no candidate with the same Sun and Moon combination, though several have similar Sun and Moon signs. Bernie Sanders and Dr. Ben Carson both have Virgo Suns, and Marco Rubio and Donald Trump both have Gemini Suns. Jeb Bush and John Kasich both have Capricorn Moons. Interestingly, Hillary Clinton has the most unique Sun/Moon combination with a Scorpio Sun, and a Pisces Moon; none of the other candidates share this pattern.

As of South Carolina, Jeb Bush has resigned his candidacy, finding that he no longer can ride on the Bush Dynasty like his brother did.
My analysis is that there is no strong candidate from any of the parties, including any independents, out there. There are no candidates with charisma, lack of political/bureaucracy/business entanglement, education and youth to be ultimately qualified to hold the office of the chief executive of the most powerful and influential country of the world. There are no JFKs or Obamas in this race with a vision for the future and a great care for all of the people, not just those of their particular ideology. The closest person to this ideal is Bernie Sanders. However, like Ronald Reagan, his age may be a deterrent to serving the most difficult four years of his life without turning over heavy decisions to underlings like George W. Bush unfortunately did.
Whoever wins the presidency, our country will survive. We have survived bad presidents before and we will survive them in the future. Politics has soured so many people that good people see no value in running. After all, how can anyone feel good about begging for money every day just to spend millions on a presidential candidacy with very little hope of being the final choice. One becomes beholden to whoever gave you all the money.
Shame on us for allowing this to happen. Any citizen should be allowed to run for president without having to shell out huge sums of money to do so.
