A foreigner visiting Rome for the first time was just in time for Pope Francis' first papal motorcade. The very excited tourist kept shouting "viva la papa," repeatedly. The tourist shouted the words meaning to give honor and praise to the passing pope full of enthusiasm and excitement. She never noticed the Latin Americans who couldn't help themselves from laughing everytime she said those words. She should have been exclaiming "il" instead of "la."
In Latin America "la papa" means potato. So what the uninformed tourist didn't know was that she was repeatedly shouting "Long live the potato!"
Let us think about it for a minute and be honest with ourselves. We are all guilty of neglecting a lot of small things in our lives. We are all guilty of this crime.
This is just a reminder to all of us that no matter how small things are, they still do matter. Small matters matter. Like the simple acts of kindness we give to others. It may not be that big of a deal if we think of it, but for the person receiving the simple act of kindness, it can be life changing for them.
