A Journey

 Thinking  back  to  when  I  began  my  career  in  writing  makes  me  realise  where  I  was,  where  I  am  and  where  i  want  to  be.  The  answer  to  all  three  is  basically  the  same.  Writing  fiction!  Retiring  early  from  a  long  career  in  metal  sales  I  decided  to  do  what I  really  wanted  to  do  and  had  done  since  childhood.  Write  stories.  Nothing  more.  A  voracious  reader  all  my  life  I  wanted  to  do  what  other  people  had  done  since  the  beginning  of  time.  No  money-  no change  there much-  I  had  ideas,  a  pen  and  some  paper  I  wrote  continously  and  started  sending  my  writing  to  publishers  everywhere.  Nobody paid  much  attention  at  first  then  I  got  my  first encouraging reply  one  day.  That`s  all  we  need  you  see  us  writers.  Encouragement  and  off  we  go  wagging  our  tails  like  little  spaniels.  Through  time  I  bought  a  second  hand  typewriter  from  a  street  market  for  a  fiver  and  kept  on  sending  my  stories  off  to  here  there  and  everywhere.  As  far as I  could  see  the  only  real  change  was  I  was  now  perpetually  covered  in  ink.  Oh  and  I  was  getting  more  encouraging  replies.  A  friend  gave  me  his  old  computer  and  i  started  to  take  a  more  professional  approach  to  my  fiction.  Hard when  you`re  still  trying  to  scrub  the  ink  off!  Funny  thing  was  I  was  always  content  just  to  write.  The  other  stuff  is  the  hard  bit.  The  marketing!!!!!!!!!  Still  that`s  part  of  being  a  writer  and  has  to  be  done.  Three  crime  fiction  novels  and  8  short  story  collections  later  - I  self  publish  now-  my  books  are  available  worldwide.  Just  Google  Liam  Leddy  and  see  what  happens  www.liamleddy.com
