An author's look back on his first year creating urban fantasy (and time travel).
Hi all! What a year!
In 2013, I created five books, four of which were fiction:
Seeking Dr. Magic
Life II
Delusional
The Four Kings
Life II sold the best, selling over 1,500 copies the first year. I'm really pleased with it. However, I do plan to edit it soon, to make it shorter, hopefully I'll get it under 500 pages!
Delusional was the second best selling. It also had the highest rating so far, which seems to indicate that a lot of people thought it was very well written. I love the combination of magic, romance, and suspense in this book. It was also co-authored by a female author, which makes it a very interesting book.
My plans for 2014? After editing Life II to make it shorter, I plan to write the sequel. It should be fascinating, as I'm going to use Max's son, Kyle, to carry the story. In the year that is portrayed in this sequel, Kyle is an adult, and an experienced, yet young theoretical physicist who works at CERN in Switzerland. He's on the verge of discovering an amazing jump in physics theory that has to deal with - you guessed it- time travel. There are aliens lurking in within this story, as Earth has been co-opted willingly by aliens who have "persuaded" humans that they are mankind's best hope. Yet, the Earthlings are becoming lazy and subservient, and Kyle is uneasy over this prospect. His father, Max Thorning, has committed suicide because of the strain of living two lives at the same time (read the original "Life II" to discover Max's journey through time) and Kyle knows nothing about Max's previous time travel, as Max has kept it his lifelong secret. A major turning point is about to happen in Kyle's life when he discovers the secret that led to his birth in the alternate parallel universe that Max unwittingly joined....
