Here is my beer review for Where the Athletes Eat from Los Cabo, Mexico. What a smooth tasting beverage.
Where the Athletes Eat have just welcomed Indio, a finely tuned beer originating in Mexico, to the beer and food club. Indio, formerly known as Cerveza Cuauhtémoc, is a light, lager type beer with a yellowish-brown colour served in a standard bottle but accompanied by a persistent, everlasting label. The term carries some controversial meaning in certain Spanish cultures but Indio, to the human eye, resembles a fierce, ready to battle warrior who readily defends his land with a bleeding heart on his sleeve.
Regardless of meaning or theory, Indio was a pleasant surprise on my recent visit to the ever present and popular El Squid Roe bar in Los Cabos, Mexico. The light, refreshingly cold beer sailed silently to the pit of my stomach leaving nothing but a salivating sensation for more as the night grew hotter and sweatier by the minutes.
Once the night came to a close, the smell of freshly barbecued meats and vegetables sizzled on the Mexican grills. Warm flour based tortilla shells became home to these patrons and nothing rang more clearly to the human tongue than this simple, perfect pairing. The salty flavour of the meat and vegetables, muddled up with the spicy salsa, melted cheese and guacamole created a thirst as dry as the Cabo desert only to be conquered by the icy filled veins of the Indio warrior.
