Wheelchair Angel

    I remember the day as if it were yesterday. David and I were at the mall in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. We had just left a store and we were walking towards the double doors to exit the mall. David always walks faster than me and he was ahead of me as usual. As we were approaching the doors I noticed a man in a wheelchair sitting to the left of the doors.

    David had already reached the doors and was heading out when I yelled at him. He stopped and looked at me and noticed the man sitting there waiting to leave the mall. He turned around and opened the door for the man and I followed them out. The man in the wheelchair thanked both of us and said, “God bless you.” David and I continued to walk to the end of the sidewalk and I told him that I guess someone was going to pick him up out front. When I turned around, the man in the wheelchair was gone. He did not have time to go anywhere. He sure didn’t have time to wheel himself away or out of our sight! Where did he go? David asked me the same question. I told my husband that this man had to have been an angel that was testing us. He was probably testing us to see if we would do a kind act of helping an old cripple man out the door. I am proud to say that I think we passed the test.

       I guess you could say that the moral of this true story is to always be aware of your surroundings at all times. You never know when you may be approached by an angelic being sent by God to see if you have a heart of gold or of stone. God sends many tests on this earth and we will be rewarded one day if we only follow our heart and love each other as much as we love ourselves. Thank God for the wake up calls he brings us.
